Egyptian tummy - any advice?

I have been back from holiday for nearly a week and the slight tummy problem I had whilst there has got worse since I got back. I have taken a Imodium a couple of times and it stops it for a day or so then the cramps and explosions come back. Is it worth seeing the doctor or should I just let it take it's course?

dont' take any more immodium
drink loads of water
eat bananas, rice, apples, tea, and toast (the BRATT diet - easy on the digestive system) or as much of it as you can bear and see how you go. sometimes tummy bugs can take a couple of weeks or so to sort out but always go to your GP if you're worried.

Better out then in, follow Brown's advice. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Thanks Brown - toast is all I fancy so my body must be telling me something - I've been zero carbing for weeks - that's had to go out of the window. Hope for the best!

Second not taking any more immodium.

Would seek medical advice asap as you've been to Egypt as well (do mention that fact to the GP too). You may well be asked to give a stool sample by the GP so that it can be analysed for nasties like amoebic dysentary.

Thanks much better today although a fellow guest who is PG has been hospitalised on a drip! was a very nice clean hotel with excellent hygiene standards - can't vouch for other guests' hygiene though - that's how i think i got it as i was very careful.

I would also drink Actimel ( or another probiotic drink) and eat some bio live type yogurt. Helps boost the good bacteria.

I would still go to your GP though as you want to make sure you rid yourself of it rather than it dying down but living dorment in your system!

No don't eat actimel or yoghurt - it's the worst thing you can do. Avoid all dairy if you can. Actuimel ahs stacks of sugar in it which will just feed the bacteria you're trying to get rid of!

Go to your GP. I had a really dodgy tummy when we were in Egypt a couple of years ago. I went to the local pharmacy and they gave me some antibiotics for my stomach and some rehydration sachets, which stopped the dysentry type bowl movements after a couple of days. I went to my GP when we got home and got more antibiotics. It took a couple of weeks to put me back to normal!
