Um, if you have a sinus infection, should yellow fluid be steadily dripping from your nose?

I have a sinus infection. Never had one before (OMG, it's miserable!!). GP has put me on heavy duty antibiotics. Don't ask what my intestines think of that.

This morning, I took my mum to the airport. Shed a few tears. Got back to the car, blew my nose. Started the car. Suddenly, cloudy yellow liquid started steadily dripping from my nose, not a stream, but drops, but for quite a while. 15 mins maybe? I went through all the tissues I had in the car and had to use DS's blanket eventually (eeeww). It finally stopped, and now I'm back to (sorry, TMI) thick yellow snot coming out.

WTH??? Should I ring the GP? Is this normal???

Yep, totally normal. Sorry.
Try steam inhalations to loosen the gunk. And be prepared at times to have such pain behind your eyes that you will worry you have a brain tumour.

And be prepared for the antibiotics to not make much difference at all. Apparantly it's hard to clear up because there's little blood supply to the sinuses. Sorry again.

I find really hot flannals on my face help.
Much sympathy.

Normal and sympathy from me too. I've had one for the past 10 days. I'm almost convinced I have a brain tumour...

try a neti pot, seriously good

Try cutting out dairy foods and alcohol completely for a good time and you will clear yr sinus troubles (alcohol is very mucous forming!!)

biglips · 26/06/2010 11:00

yes i get that from time to time as its the excess of the infection. Hope the tabs will clear it up.

Ok so never having had one of these... how long do they last??? I do think it's getting better (day 4 of antibiotics), my cheek doesn't hurt as much anymore, and I don't have any body aches... but I'm still far from well. This is so frustrating.

As I posted above try the no dairy and booze thing; as you get older you get effects from food that you didn't used to get. most Docs don't want to know about diet related illnesses.

happycopter · 26/06/2010 20:43

Hmmm... that may not be an option (no booze, ok - I can lay off the wine for a while) but no dairy - I'm trying not to get a yeast infection from these stupid antibiotics so taking acidophilus and eating Bio-K yoghurt by the bucket... aaaaaaggghhh!!!
