Bronclioitis

DD (5 months) has currently got a bout of bronclioitis. She was in hospital for 3 days/nights and was on an IV drip for 36 hours due to her refusing to feed. She is much improved however is still having mild breathing difficulties, a terrible cough and a tad irritable at times (but aren't we all LOL).

My concern is she has only fed off me (breast) 18 minutes in the past 27 hours and we just managed to get her to drink 50mls of expressed milk, albeit VERY slowly. I have given her paracetamol in case she has a sore throat and heaps of saline solution in her little nose in case it was blocked but she is still reluctant to feed. Her nappies have been very dry, but not completely, for the past 24hours too.

She actually seems quite happy in herself, although she is sleeping atm. Should I worry about her lack of fluid intake? I have a nurse coming to my house in about 12 hours (I am in New Zealand so it is night here). I could really do with a night away from the hospital (would be the first night in a week) plus the All Whites World Cup match starts in 4 hours LOL. What do you think?

Just keep offering her the breast which i suspect is the first thing she will take to before all other foods. Plus, of course the expressed milk which she seemed to take. My oldest had Bronchiolitis at 7 months and didnt drink or eat for a week. Not hospitalized but pretty poorly. I hope you dd 'picks ' up soon and gets well. Keep giving the paracetamol too. She probably doesnt want to feed because her nose is blocked. Just keep an eye out for dry nappies as you are doing , and inform nurse/doctors of any change. best of luck .

Yes keep offering milk and checking the nappies. If no change then inform a hospital.
I hope she feels better soon, have you tried one of those "snot sucker" things to clear her nose? I swear by them when DD has a stuffy nose (which is pretty much all the time since she had bronciolitis at 2 weeks old )

Keep all the nappies for the nurse to have a look at when she comes and then she can assess. When my DS had it they weighed his nappies - I don't know if it was a certain amount of wee he had to do or just that he was weeing at all.

Does she have a fever still?
