Any dermatologists around? I need help understanding what I've been told by the dermatologist I saw yesterday.

I am sweaty, always have been, but coped. However I have lost my eyebrows over the last few years, and in summer sweat now pours down my forehead and straight into my eyes.

Dermatologist has prescribed Anhydrol Forte. But looking at the info around, it's only suitable for armpits, hands or feet. It's harmful if it goes into the eyes. She said that that would not be a problem because I'll apply it at night - but I'm menopausal, so what happens if I get a hot flush in the night?

Also, I have very sensitive skin, especially on my face, and am allergic to sunlight (none of which she seemed to consider at all important). So she's given me hydrocortisone cream to control the irritation she expects me to have.

The dermatologist told me that Anhydrol Forte was the only treatment possible for me, but the leaflet she prepared for me says that glycopyrrolate solution is suitable for excessive sweating of scalp and forehead. So why didn't she try that?

I don't know what to do. I'm horrified at the idea of repeatedly putting meths and hydrocortison on my face!

Sounds odd that you've been given something that is harmful for your eyes that an all likelihood will end up running onto your eyes. I wouldn't be happy with that either.

I agree with Pixie and would seek a second opinion.

Not sure if it could be viewed as a better option but do you know that botox is used to control excessive sweating ?

PrettyCandles · 23/06/2010 19:53

I discussed botox with my GP. She wasn't sure what the best treatment for me was, so she referred me to a specialist who would know more than her. Specialist mentioned Botox, but all she said was that she didn't know why it was used for armpits but not for forehead.

HI

I use anhydrol forte under my arms and find it way too strong to put on my face!!!!

I have used hydrocortisone on top aswell to take away some of the irritation, but the a.f is so strong it didn't help....

The thought of it accidently getting into my eyes is not worth thinking about...sorry!

Botox does seem to be used for foreheads by these folk so it might be another option.

Does sound like you need a second opionion really.

Interesting website, thanks. I know it's not available on the NHS, but would be willing to pay for it if it was recommended by an independant dermatologist.

I shall go back to my GP, but I'll also keep bumping the thread. Surely there is a dermatologist among the MNers?!

Think you can use Botox to treat sweating anywhere. On the forehead it is usually targeted at the muscles to stop frowning etc. Under the arms it is injected very superficially to target the sweat glands. You could try asking a plastic surgeon to treat your forehead for sweating bacause he/she will understand the anatomy of the skin and underlying muscles.
What you don't want is someone trying to treat the sweat glands and the product then dispersing into the wrong muscles and giving you a brow droop etc.
Other wise you could see someone and try a treatment to reduce wrinkles which may have the side effect of helping the sweating.
Would be really interested into how you get on.

Anhydrol forte is cheap, botox isn't

I think glycopyrrolate for excessive sweating is more of a lengthy soak and suitable for large areas like limbs.
