TMI alert- cervical fluid question

sorry if this is tmi for anyone but this has ben niggling at me for a few months now.

ok, i have the book,'taking charge of your fertility' and although i am not charting my cycles i am aware of the changes in cervical fluid. i have a 35 day cycle usually and i have noticed that when looking for signs of ovulation. they type of CV that indicates this is present for longer than it suggests it should be in the book. but the strange thing is, every cycle it is present earlier and lasts for longer, almost until the day my period arrives. for eg, i used to notice it around about day 11/12 but this cycle it has been present from day 5, the day after i finished bleeding, and if last cycle was anything to go by, it will be present until just before my period.

has anyone else experienced this? my periods only started again at the end of november after having ds 2, 6 months prior to that.

My DS is 7 months and I've only had 2 periods since he's dropped some bf. I've noticed that I seem to either bleed, or have very fertile looking CM. Not like the cycles I had before getting pg when I was ttc.

Am presuming it's normal for a while after, as I know it can take a while for hormones to settle down again.

I get a lot of clear discharge of the type normally expected around ovulation, but for a longer time than normally expected. Get tonnes more of it while ovulating, though (and mittelschmertz, so no confusion as to when I'm actually ovulating)! One doctor once told me it may be related to my cervical ectropion (otherwise known as a cervical erosion, although it is actually an overgrowth onto the outside of the cervix of the cells normally found lining the inside surface of the cervix and is related to the hormones your body produces, and is totally benign and nothing to worry about). Ectropions are far more common in teenagers, women on the pill and women who have recently given birth - something to do with the hormones - but anyone can have one at some point (you don't necessarily have one forever if you get one - the cells can recede again). They may also cause bleeding at odd times of the month, as the cells from the inside of the cervix are more sensitive than those normally found on the outer cervix. I've personally never found mine causes unusual bleeding, but would be interested to have it confirmed whether it does cause the extra lubrication!!!!!

So, it could be that?

it sounds very like that rabbitstew. i thought maybe something was wrong but it if it is what you describe then, nothing to worry about. i hate going to the GP incase i am wasting his time so thought i would ask here first. thanks.

Hi, booyhoo. Probably still worth asking the GP about, in case it is something else, although if it's totally clear, smell-free, froth-free and totally un-irritating discharge, it's unlikely to be anything serious.

rabbit ,

i get same when im ovulating , loads of the clear stuff ..sometimes 3/5 days worth ..then back toy normal , iv asked doc many times and they say its all normal ovulation .

booyhoo · 20/06/2010 20:09

totally clear, no smell, frothfree and not at all irritating. i had just noticed that it was lasting longer every cycle.

I personally think it's a good thing - no need for extra lubrication, ever! I just try not to think too much about the relationship between humans and slugs at certain times of the month and everything's fine!

it would be good if OH was home often enough to, ahem, experience it. he only gets home 2-4 nights a month.
