I've been diagnosed with Bell's Palsay. But rather than let them tape my right eye shut they've given me some tape so I can do it myself around driving the essential drives (sch run). When they asked would I be ok taping it shut I stupidly said absolutely, I mean how hard could it be taping your eye shut? Well 7 attempts, tears, and a blinding headache later I've discovered that actually its not that easy. No matter what I do it still partially opens. Its driving me up the wall. But if I can't master it and have to go back to the docs and get it permanently shut it will stop me driving and that's disasterous as I lives many miles from the kids schools and my husband works 2hrs away and this blasted thing could last months and months (if it ever does get better). So if anyone's a nurse/doc or simply had it before and needed to tape an eye shut. I'm be incredibly grateful for tips.

no idea but friend had this and acupuncture really helped it go away quickly

Oh blimey, really? I've never had acupuncture but at this point in time am willing to give most things a go. With four young children I seriously don't want to be car less

God that comes across as car loving - just for the record I'm not but with an autistic eldest the sch run has not turned out to be the blissful stroll up the street that I always anticipated it would be.

Could a community nurse come and do it every night or something?

LowLevelWhinging · 17/06/2010 21:34

Or at least until you get the hang of it.

DD1 wears a patch for her eye - we actually ended having them sent over from the USA and they go on the glasses now - BUT (and this is the relevant part) the alternative is a type of big plaster-type adhesive thing that you simply put over the eye. This might be much easier - and not so adhesive as plasters so you won't be waxing off your eye brow but will get some sleep.

Sorry - hope you sort it for tonight - am sure the patches can be purchased from most ophthalmologists - try calling opticians.

Good luck and hope it sorts itself out sooner rather than later.

Of course! sticky eye patches!
