8w baby prescribed clotrimazole for yeast infection on skin - help!

Hello. My 8w old baby is having clotrimazole applied 3 times daily to her face and neck according to doctor's instructions, after she was diagnosed as having a yeast infection on her face at her 7w check up. What started off as a red rash with tiny bumps has now, since application of the cream, turned into a large scaly patch of red with flaking areas. Is this normal? Would it be part of the healing process? Has anyone else had experience of applying clotrimazole to the face? I'd really appreciate guidance as I'm worried the cream is making things worse and the poor love is itchy, I think, though obviously she can't tell me so. I'm supposed to apply it for two weeks but will she have any skin left by that time?? Seems a bit of a harsh cream for a newborn. Thanks v much for any advice

My dd had it prescribed for her fanjo when she was about that age. Same sort of reaction to what your dd is experiencing. For reassure I would take her to the pharmacy.

Why not contact your doctor or health visitor at the practice and ask if this is a normal reaction? You're clearly worried and - to this layman at least - it sounds like the rash is getting worse rather than better.

I've called the doctor but I live in London = 48 hours to get a callback (and two weeks to get an appt). Hence posting on mumsnet in the hope of a quicker response from mums. Thanks for your replies

Go and see a pharmacist.

What was the rash like in the first place? Red bumps/pimples that look angry when they cry or are warm are utterly normal in a baby of this age.

Look at this image. Was it anything like that? It is baby acne and goes on its own.

OMG that is EXACTLY what it looked like, Showofhands, but the doctor said it wasn't baby acne, it was a yeast infection. And now it doesn't look like that at all - the spots have gone and the skin is red and scaly, as though the cream has irritated it. I think I'll call NHS Direct. Thanks for replying, though. It's a bit silly of me to post about a rash. Even for doctors they are hard to pin down, never mind on MN. Doh!
