oh god. I found it a few days ago but went all ostrich like about it until this morning.

I am trying to remain calm and detatched about it but desperately failing and I'm terrified.

It is top left side of left breast next to armpit and feels like a hard pea.

Have booked GP appointment. Tuesday.

Try not to panic LOR, most breast lumps turn out to be nothing to worry about. But should always be checked by a doctor - so you are doing absolutely the right thing.

I see from your profile you are young - again another thing which decreases your risk of it being anything bad. Just try to keep yourself busy for the next few days, until you have seen the doctor. It is possible he will refer you to a breast clinic - again, no reason to panic, its commonly done, you will get seen fairly quickly if this happens, but I'm just letting you know about this possibility, because it will involve a little more waiting.

Do you have anyone you can talk to about it at home, to help you keep calm? If not there is a 'check your breasts' thread in health with lots of lovely women on it, who will be happy to support you, and talk you through the waiting process. Take care

The vast majority of lumps in the breasts of young women are nothing to worry about. Statistically it is more likely to be a cyst or benign tomour (ie not cancer). Try not to panic.

Ive had two of those bad boys, one when i was 26 and the other when i was 34 ... each time i was reffered and it was fine, breast lumps are apparently quite common, you are doing the right thing seeing your GP, its easy to say dont worry so i wont but try and be a little assured that its almost probably nothing for you to worry about and if it was it will be seen to very quickly - hope all goes well for you.

pranma · 11/06/2010 20:27

The really important thing is to have it checked asap and if there is the slightest doubt insist on being seen at a specialist clinic. We can all tell you that ,as you know, you are probably fine but dont accept 'probably' from your doctor.
The waiting is the worst but hopefully all will be well eventually.
Good Luck

agree with pranma and Kurrikurri - do nip over to the check your breasts thread here as there are people in the same boat there and you'll get your hand held...will be thinking of you on tuesday

Sorry that I didn't come back to my thread everyone, half an hour after posting I logged out and haven't had chance to switch PC back on until now!

Thank you all for replying, I will check out the thread.

Am on my own with DS and don't want to tell anyone in RL yet as A) it might be nothing, and B) if I say the words out loud it will be real and right now I am doing a fairly good job of kidding myself that it's nothing to worry about. This has been helped by a very busy weekend, hopefully it wll be tuesday before I know it.

I will definately want it checked by more than the GP and will insist on that, I check regularly and know it is something new.

Thank you all again for your supportive replies they have helped.
