Am I wrong and unreasonable

Am looking for a bit of perspective here so feel free to tell me I am being stupid and even unreasonable. Also bear in mind I am not in the UK, have to pay all medical expenses etc so feel I should be getting value for money and each visit costs a fortune we do not have.
Yesterday went to see gyne consultant re long term ongoing problems had a scan and exam which showed fibroids, ovarian cyst and no other problems, he ruled them out as the cause of my pain and problems and as I am plan another child he will not investigate for endometreotis [sp sorry]
unless I cannot conceive. He advised going on the pill [I spend one week a month vomiting how will that work] I really do not want to use the pill [no real reason just wary of messing with my system and hormones]
If I go back to GP where can I go from here I want answers before I used meds. Am I being stupid, unreasonable not going on the pill with out knowing the cause of my problems

I don't think you are being unreasonable. Did he give a reason for going on the pill? Also depending on the type of pill this will also influence the levels of hormones etc.

FionaSH · 11/06/2010 15:34

No, I don't think so. I've also been prescribed the pill to deal with a migraine problem (my migraines are not hormonal ) so I'm not going to take it - but I'm going to write down my list of why/why nots and wherefores and speak to the GP again. I personally think you should do the same.

No reason was given Gymchats and he did not even discuss the different types of pill that may help or why they may help. I am on here because I got really confused when I did a bit of research online. I know I really need to go back to the GP but not sure what I want to say or do. DP has suggested a hysterectomy and adoption [I am currently in major PMS mode]and the above mentioned appointment did not help

Fiona I have a diary both menstrual pain and illness related and a food diary but no one is interested. Are you Irish I am asking because We have just moved back to Irl and I need to sort out health insurance, any advice would be good as today cost me Euro 150 and the Gp is going to cost Euro 60 next week
I hope you get your migraines sorted they really are the worst at least I know the pattern of my problems

I would be finding another gynae to work with; some of them are completely not up to date at all when it comes to dealing with such problems. Any half decent gynae would look at your pain and symptom diary. I would ask your GP to refer you to someone else, is there any possibility of getting a referral to a hospital in the UK itself?. I would ask the GP if there any type of reciprocal agreement between the UK and the Irish Republic re patients and hospitals in the UK.

Also a scan (infact any type of scan or a blood test for that matter) will not detect endometriosis if it is there. It is usually only diagnosed through laparoscopy (keyhole surgery type op).

BTW if the underlying cause of your pain is endometriosis your partner needs to be told that a hyst op may not make the problem go away completely. It is certainly not the op of choice at all if endo is an issue. Both ovaries would also need to be removed if a hyst is performed also.

Although it is a UK based site www.endo.org.uk is worth looking at due to the mine of information it has on it.

Good luck, you will need to be persistant in order to get answers.
