Do I give 4month old BCG?

We live in an area of high TB in london so all babies are offered BCG as an additional jab (they don't do BCG routinely at 14 anymore). I was going to get it done as my baby could be mixing with infected babies at baby group etc. So our appointment is lunchtime. Cept we are probably moving out of area (to Bristol- do they offer BCG to babies there?) in a few months so prob wouldn't need it, and it is such a horrid jab in that it scars etc (and I am a terrible scab picker and would need to sit on my hands to leave it alone- I mean I wouldn't pick her scabs but yikes the temptation!).

So have been thinking about cancelling the appointment as negatives outweigh the benefits possibly? I figure if she travels to a country with high TB when she is older she could have it then, but I am worried I am depriving her of a jab that could protect her from a nasty disease- (especially as there are drug resistant strains now I think- but isn't TB mostly treatable anyhow?).

Just wondering if the wonders of mumsnet could give me any advice asap so I can cancel the appt/go the appt. Am going off to google now.

Both of mine had the BCG (at about 1 month old), we don't live in a high risk area but my OH is from south asia and the kids will go on holidays there so it was important for us. They both have the scar but I don't think it looks too bad, I have one too!

As for your baby, I think it depends more on your lifestyle. Unlike a lot of other diseases TB is usually caught after high exposure (ie in cramped conditions with a carrier). As I understand it your child would be highly unlikely to catch TB at a baby group. If they are going to be going to nursery/school in an area that offers the jab as routine then I would say it is worth it (I don't know if Bristol is such an area).
