MALE BREAST CANCER

My husband has been to the Breast Clinic today after finding a lump in his chest.

His Nan & Aunt died from breast cancer. His sister had breast cancer, and has only been clear for a year...so early days.

His mum had /died from another cancer.

So he panicked.

However the consultant examined his chest, abdomen and balls and said he was sure it was 'only' a cyst or similar.

Apparently, his lump is smooth and mobile...whereas cancer is fixed and jagged (?????)

He then told my husband he would refer him for a mammogram/ultrasound/aspiration to confirm his diagnosis.

he has no pain...no discharge...no discolouration or dimpling....so could he be ok????

Generally speaking a tumour resembles a star with pointed edges, they attach to the structures around them so they can't be moved. It doesn't sound like anything sinister but they will be checking it to make sure. Try not to panic.

Hoping this is just a cyst, only the mammograms will be conclusive consultants tend to err on the side of caution and do not give false hope.Fingers crossed ,good luck.

thanks...have read about lipoma (which he has had already- 1 small lump on his back)

and diagnosis of that requires aspiration/scan etc...so that makes sense why he is being reffered further.

my husband just felt confused...he went in believing he had cancer....and came out after a 1 minute examination- which did not indicate cancer....but was told he still needed the mammogram....etc

having read about the lipoma...i now see that its not just cancer that mammograms etc are used for....

My Dad was screened for breast cancer and it was very scary.

When I had a breast lump, it was smooth and mobile and turned out to be nothing to worry about. But still, the waiting was not good.
