My brother had a tumour removed from his tongue last week .
He's back home but suffering terribly with ulcers to back of throat .
GP has prescribed antiobiotics .
Any other advice ?
He's on soft /pureed diet but ulcers are making it really hard for him to get much down.

I get throat ulcers once or twice a year - always in the same place and to be honest you just have to wait for them to go, I don't see what antibiotics would do. The ulcers are probably caused by trauma to the throat from the operation (did his consultant warn about this or can you ring and check?) and by the fact he's probably run down due to the tumour. Hopefully they will clear up on their own, mine usually take about 10 days or so as they do get aggrevated when you eat.

I'm sorry that your brother has been through this and that he makes a full recovery soon.

i sympathise totally......i too had an ulcerated throat following some surgery, from the tube they 'shove' down your throat during the surgery.
There is no remedy really, just got to wait for the ulcers to heal.......which they will eventually.
antibiotics won't help the ulcers, perhaps they were for something else.
Best to stick with cool/cold slippery soft foods.
perhaps drink milk prior to eating to provide a thin coating.

There's a mouth wash that will help (Corsodyl?), it clears the ulcers up quicker. I had loads after having a tooth taken out and they cleared up within days.

corsodyl is good for mouth ulcers, but alas not throat ulcers. they're too far down the throat, gargling won't reach them.

Ah, sorry. I was assuming that they were not too far down.

Try mixing a couple of dispersable asprins in a tiny bit of water, and then swallowing that down. I find the asprin covers up the pain of my ulcers for long enough that I can eat!
