Any reason why I cannot remove my own stitches?

I have 4 stitches in the front of my thigh after having a mole remved. (GP suspected melanoma, and while results are not back yet, the dermatologist said that it was unlikely to be that).

The stitches can come out today and they feel loose and can move. I tried to get an appointment to have them removed but it is a mission arranging this with work and one department could not do it so referred me to another who was full and so referredme to yet another etc.

Surely there is nothing to removing them: snip and pull?

But can you be bought for a nice bottle of wine lg&t. I know nothing about wines. Pinot Grigio is one. Merlot possibly. Or he's a wizard. I forget.

If she has her period when i do it i want a bottle of gin not wine.

ShowOfHands · 08/06/2010 13:44

SOH thank you for making my day with the best ever thread hijack! i really hope this goes on the talk roundup!

ShowOfHands · 08/06/2010 13:58

I really hope it doesn't!

What colour are your gloves lg&t? Are they definitely surgical gloves? I once made a mistake with gardening gloves. Long story.

My brother, incidentally, stitched up his own arm once. With fishing wire.

largeginandtonic · 08/06/2010 14:02

Oh yes proper surgi gloves. Lovely snapping sound as you put them on. I miss that

Dh has stitched himself up too. Grim practice. Looks all wonky.

Oh db's were superb. Nasty meat cleaver incident. I tied the line off as he couldn't do it one handed. He's good at needlework though.

largeginandtonic · 08/06/2010 14:11

I am hopeless at needlework. I was always worried about stitching women up. Luckily for them i never got that point! (no pun intended)

I think(and I'm most certainly not a medical professional) that coils have some sort of mechanism that means they can go up, but can't come down( so to speak )and this needs to be deactivated before said coil can be removed.

< admits to be strangely fascinated in having a look at it after though>
