Any thoughts on how to get elderly father to get (and use) a mobility scooter ?

Long running saga of my Dad, his diabetic neuropathy and now his DVT /PE that is not clearing. He can now literally only walk 10m at a time, can't cycle at all, and so is getting very miserable stuck at home all the time.

I think that even if the DVT related bit clears more, he wasn't very mobile before, and he really needs to do something about it.

Have suggested a scooter as then he could go into town, take it in the car to go places etc etc and get his independance back. He says he's not giving in

He's so down now, is talking about you'd destroy him if he was a dog, am worried for him, and think he needs to get out.

So, any ideas on persuading him to get one/use it. I'd gladly buy him one if I thought he wouldn't be so stubborn about it !

Can you put mobility scooters in ordinary cars? Worth finding out.

Yes, there are a variety of different ones, and some fold up very neatly.

That's good I didn't know that.

Can you find out about any local clubs for older people that might be suitable for your father?

Does he have any hobbies that he can do or what about a local class in something, such as computing, that he might find useful to learn.

Does he have a local cinema which has a pensioners day (they get tea and biscuits served!) and people can meet each other and watch a film.

Anything that he might be interested in and then you can say "Well, if only you had a mobility scooter you could go to that every week!".
