Eye Floaters - again!

Hello - I already posted here about my problem with eye floaters and some of you kindly gave me very positive stories. However, I just wanted to know if anybody has the very long thread type floaters, as well as the black dots? I have lots of long threads in my eyes and I can't believe I'll ever be able to ignore them as they move all together and are very very visible. Has anybody got experience of these thread/hair like floaters and are they possible to eventually ignore?
Again, I'd welcome only positive stories please as I'm really really struggling trying to ignore this rubbish in my eyes.

Echops - have you actuallly had this properly checked out? I have some experience of this as have a genetic condition which puts me at inordinately high risk of a retinal detachment and I am supposed to hotfoot it to an opthalmologist at the first sign of any extra floaters etc.
Am not sure floaters to the degree you describe is normal, however the best way to find out would be to ask your GP to refer you to an opthalmologist who can check out your eyes properly.
Apparently the majority of people with my condition only find out they have it after their first detachment, the mean age for this is 32. I was only diagnosed at the age of 33 (having been regularly had my eyes checked all that time as am v shortsighted) and only then because dd1 was diagnosed shortly after birth.

On the other hand, you seem to have a very high level of anxiety about your vision (I sympathise massively, my vision was massively (but temporarily) affected after retinal surgery and it nearly tipped me into depression). Do you suffer from health anxiety at all? Are you under a lot of stress or worried about something else right now?
If all the tests come back clear it might be worth talking to your GP about how you feel, they may have some strategies that could help.

Yep, echops, I have the long threads, like amoeba drifting around - they clump as well, I have to blink them away sometimes, & I have tiny pin prick black dots which always have me swiping at flies.

I have a long history of acute myopia (now fixed by cataract surgery) & I have had floaters like this for decades. My brother had a retinal detachment about 10 years ago, although his myopia was much less than mine; I always have dilation drops at check-ups so the opthalmologist can look at my retina, & it's always OK.

I am just a very floatery person & it may be that you are too. They are a PITA, esp when driving, esp at night when they drift across my vision when there's oncoming traffic, but they can always be blinked away & any particularly annoying clumps do seem to dissipate with time.

The thing I've been told to watch out for, rather than floaters, is flashing lights in my vision, & so-far-touch-wood I haven't had those. If I get them I will be off for a check-up like a shot!

Hi echops - to be honest have lots, dark ones, opaque ones, stringy ones and small round ones. This have been as a result of my surgery and as I know they are not sinister and are more annoying than anything so I tend not to worry about them.

Depending on what I am looking at also depends on how many I see. By and large though, when doing everyday stuff I tend to not 'see' them. It must be because you have sonething else to focus on and think about - rather than concentrating on what is going on in your eyes!

I'm sure as time goes on you will learn to cope - or hopefully they might disappear altogther for you. I think though the hypnotism route may work for you, if you have a tendency to obsess over them this may make you more anxious so something that relaxes you will help

hi, seems my eyes are very simular to yours, i have large thread type one in my right eye and dozens more in both eyes, it makes my eyes and head hurt and am really fed up, it stops you from doing things, i feel it has totally spoilt my life. not wanting to go on holiday too much sunlight! I have three children and feel the suffer as i'm not the person i use to be.
Its hard for other people to understand what its like. I have been wondering if at all possible hynotherapy could help! as a lot of people say that they kinda train there brain not to see them! maybe we could try train it harder. Something i will definately look into.
love to everyone who has to suffer with this very annoying BIG problem xx

echops · 04/07/2010 18:41

Hi lisaw27. How long have you had your floaters? I've been told the longer you have them the more you brain ignores them. Saw a friend on Friday who has loads and swears blind he never sees them (although he's 50 and has had them since his late teens). I had 2 sessions of hypno so far - although I still see them all the time the hypno has helped somewhat in relaxing me. Am trying my damndest to carry on as normal and just ignore them - easier said than done. Some days I still get terribly upset by them (particularly when outside) - other days I just resign myself to them.

Hi. Just found this forum. I too suffer from floaters. Had cataract surgery then after a year suffered a detached retina. Had that fixed with a vitrectomy. In the eye that had the vitrectomy I have lots of little spots, circles and some of them seem to have clumped together so now they look like a bunch of grapes. Has anyone else got floaters that look like this. I am going back to see my retinal surgeon in a weeks time as I am so fed up with seeing this clumpy floater and want to get it checked out. Don't know if it is connected by this clumpy one seems to pop up more when I am stressed (which is pretty often). Sorry for the ramble but this condition is pretty depressing and not many people understand how you feel.

Echops I'm the same as you!!! Let me know if you still read this and we'll try and get to the bottom of it..or help eachother. It was as if I was reading my own 'comments.'
Kind regards.

hi echops, i realize this is an old post, just wondering if your floater problem ever resolved? reading your posts, i feel exactly the same as you did. Am so scared that i will always see them and my life will always be this constant obsession with them. I'm hoping you dont notice them anymore! thanks

fourmummy · 02/11/2012 10:48

Hi Echops, did you ever get a resolution to the floaters? Are they still a problem? Would love to hear how you are getting on with them. I have them too - both dots and squiggly lines. Mine don't come and go but are there all the time (hubby has them but they come and go). Mine are recent and I too am freaking out! I have also developed 'visual snow' and sensitivity to bright light and some difficulty focusing quickly. I have always been short-sighted. Are these all related?

Sepidehzzia · 02/12/2018 05:56

Hi I know you were struggling with floaters in 2010 have they gotten any better? I recently got many and I’m not sure what to do it’s been a year and I still notice them. I just want to not see them anymore at all. I can’t seem to filter them out.
