Anybody else had HG CGIN and Leukoplakia?

I know I should speak to my consultant, but I've got to wait for the histology reports ... and I could do with somewhere to sound off without frightening DP or my mother (who seems terrified by the mere mention of this).

Following a couple of mildly abnormal cervical smears I had a biopsy, which came back with CIN3 and HG CGIN. I've just had a LLETZ procedure done, and the consultant said there is now widespread Leukoplakia too.

I have Googled Leukoplakia, it seems to be something to do with pre-cancerous changes in the mouth's of smokers (I don't smoke). Has anybody else had it 'down there'? I feel like it must be suggestive of further changes, and that worries me, particularly as 6 weeks ago there were only the smallest of changes (barely visible on the colposcopy screen)...

I haven't had this myself, but I used to work in cervical cytology. I hope you don't mind me replying, even if I can't be much help. If it bumps this thread for you, someone else might see it and reply.

Has your consultant explained CIN 3 and high grade CGIN to you? I am surprised that he told you about the leukoplakia but then didn't explain whether or why it is significant.

As far as I can remember, leukoplakia can be seen with chronic cervicitis as well as abnormalities.

Hi
Another cytology person here. I know it's easy for me to say but try to hang on to speak to your consultant and stop googling!

Why was there a difference between visits?Sometimes it can be difficult to visualise certain areas of the cervix and it may be that they got a better view this time.

Leukoplakia is another term used for keratosis on the cervix. It means that the surface is more keratinised than the rest - it can be associated with lots of things - including benign conditions and trauma (e.g. using a diaphragm).
It might be worth ringing tomorrow & having a chat with someone in the colposcopy unit.
Jo's trust forum might also be worth a visit. It is primarily aimed at women with cancer but the forum tends to collect together many women who are currently having investigation and treatment for CIN and CGIN. There is a lot of support there from people going through the same thing. There is also a medical expert section to contact for advice too.

I hope this is of some use to you - if you search on LLETZ or colposcopy in general health you'll find a few people about how've had treatment too.

I will check back in tomorrow evening and see how you are.
Bw
