I have spent the last couple of days feeling like the world is spinning, today my ear hurts...

Is it labyrinthitis then?

I stepped out of a lift on Thursday and the world felt like it was shifting (always get this a bit anyway with lifts) but it hasn't stopped. If I move my head too quickly I feel like I'm on a roundabout.

Today my ear feels sore, right inside, not like with other earaches. Also feel like it's got water in it swishing around.

DD has just had a bad cold and really blocked ears, so it's a virus I suppose? And if so, there's nowt to be done is there?

Google says I have spinnyitis and my ears will fall off within the next 37 minutes.

Any advances on spinnyitis?

Sounds like labyrinthitis -'tis ghastly- certainly some sort of ear thingy (medical term). Docs. can give something to help with labyrinthitis, but I guess it'll be hard to find one before tues? Are you throwing up, and falling over too? (sympathetic but useless post emoticon)

Nauseous, no appetite and keep having to 'steady myself'. Was sitting on a stool earlier and kept thinking I was going to fall off it.

The dizziness is manageable. In fact if I sit very, very still with my eyes closed, it almost disappears completely. But then I can't MN.

Does it go away on its own?

My sinuses feel a bit achey too and my nose kept running this morning, though I have no cold. It's like a virus but without the normal sneezing/coughing.

When I've had it, its lasted about a week, but the dizziness improves after maybe 3-4 days. (any chance of a walk in centre being open over BH, so you could get something? - the stuff they give you doesn't get rid of it completely but helps a bit)
The roundabout feeling was exactly how I described it at the time, When I've had it its always come on fairly quickly, a bit out of the blue. Yours does sounds v. similar - hope you're feeling better soon - I too found lying very still with eyes closed the best solution.

It happened out of nowhere. I stepped out of the lift and had to hold onto a shelf as I thought I was going to fall over. Was bad for a couple of minutes and then settled into a moderate dizziness that is exacerbated by moving around.

My ear doesn't hurt that much though. And only started hurting today. I assumed that it would really hurt if I had labyrinthitis. DD was at the walk in centre a week ago as she was screaming with ear pain (just blocked up, no infection), so I'm sure there's something in the air.

Walk in centre is open daily 7am to 10pm so could theoretically go later when dh gets home from work. But I'm bfing so assume labyrinthitis meds (cyclizine presumably) are incompatible.

It's weird. Really weird. And exactly like I've just got off a roundabout.

Thanks for responding btw. Was feeling v lonely.

I have just recovered from labrynthitus and its horrible- my sympathies! I had to lay down for two days and nights and poor DH had to hold the fort! The doc came out to the house and gave me an injection which stopped me throwing up. But the dizzy spells last for a while. I had a milder dose 6 months ago and this recent case was after a very heavy cold when the doc said more fluid would have been in the ear. You need a prescription for some tablets which help with the sickness. prochlorperazine I think (sp)

KurriKurri · 29/05/2010 16:44

Mmm - might be incompatible. I also had it once soon after baby was born, but didn't have meds that time.(sorry can't remember what I was given - was a few years ago, but cyclizine sounds likely).
I've never had ear pain with it, I think I've always tended to get it when I'm a bit run down, so maybe if you've had a virus in the family that would make it more likely. It is horrid, you feel so strange - I just lay in a heap and got DH to lift the baby over to me for feeding.

ShowOfHands · 29/05/2010 17:02

I'm not being sick, just nauseous.

Having a v energetic 3yr old to chase round after isn't helping. I am quite run down and thought a couple of days ago that I might be getting a bit anaemic (susceptible to it and have heavy periods), just generally feeling a bit washed out.

It just doesn't sound severe enough. I have to keep stopping and can't walk for long without having to sit/lie down but I'm not bed ridden by any means. Just feel the world pitching from under me gently every time I move. It's very disconcerting and I feel very bizarre.
