Colposcopy timing

I'm due to have a hysteroscopy to remove a polyp and possibly a fibroid in a couple of weeks.

When I saw the gyne consultant before this they took a smear as routine even though it had only been 18 months since last.

Today I get a phone call saying the same consultant has referred me to have a coloscopy at a different hospital (i have a choice of 4) but they'd give me no further details why and they had a cancellation and could i make it next Thursday.

Just realised I'm likely to be on my period at that time, is this going to be a problem? Can find conflicting information on the internet and I have no paperwork yet about the procedure and no contact details for the hospital to ring and ask (or to cancel if necessary)

Am i expecting too much of them to ask about time of the month if it affected things?

Would have been nice to know why I was being referred too, no idea whether it was abnormal cells or abnormal cervix appearance (gp and consultant both commented that my cervix looked like I was on the pill - I'm not)

Will it just be a look or is it likely to be treatment too? will this affect the hysteroscopy? I've not had any abnormal smear results before, I thought they normally just adopted a wait and see in another 6 months approach.

What hopeless patient care!
Phone them and ask them why you have to have one and tell them when your period is and ask if thursday is still appropriate.

How insensitve of them!

I would let them know that you are due to have your period and check if the appointment should be arranged. I agree that there should have been some communication as to why they've scheduled it, perhaps it will be with the written info about the appointment?
Hope you get some answers.

sooz, when you say regular, how regular? I am now having 6 monthly colposcopy's and 3 monthly smears although they assure me that nothing is wrong.

I'll try and phone them on Tuesday now because of the bank holiday and see if I can get through to the right people.

Well got the letter through today and it clearly states that it cannot be done when on your period. I've not been able to get through but have left a message.

Can't believe they didn't ask the question when they made the last minute appointment, it was less than a week in advance so a lot of women would know whether they'd be on their period or not.
