Hi all, hope someone can help me out here, I have not had dd vaccinated and she is coming up to one. She is now getting about all over the place so im debating whether is would be worth getting her a tetanus jab, if anyone has any advice i would really appreciate it.

Definitely! Tetanus is found in soil and she will start getting cuts and things from falling over very soon!

The jab is very safe and tetanus can be fatal.

Tetanus spores are in soil but tetanus bacteria ( what causes the sickness) are anaerobic and can nor survive in oxygen hence why deep puncture wounds or crush injuries are at risk. Surface scratches or any wound that bleeds are usually not at risk if you practice good wound hygeine.(which most people do these days anyway to avoid infection) There are about 7-10 cases a year in the uk. Cases not deaths. If your dd was badly injured presumably you would take her to a&e and if the wound was a tetanus risk you would be offered tetanus immunoglobin and antibiotics to treat it. If your dd is older than 7 there is a single tetans vax available if you are still concerned. Tbh there is a bigger chance of your dd getting struck by lightning than contracting tetanus but I understand your concern.
