hmm, where to start. Had bad period-type cramping pain all day, well actually it woke me up at 5am and has been there ever since, I've stuffed myself with painkillers in order to get through a working day. Thing is, I don't have a cycle any more, I've had a mirena for a year and it was put in during an op last year to get rid of polyps and assorted nuisance bits from endometriosis. The mirena's been fantastic for me. Anyway, don't know what this is all about, I haven't had any pain in years. The cramping contraction style pain is mostly low, at times pretty much feels like labour but I'm getting stabs on the left side, which is where my remaining ovary is. Any ideas?

It could be that your coil has slipped partially through your cervix and is irritating it and causing your womb to contract which is causing the pain. This happened to me with my first coil. I had an internal scan to confirm the position of the coil, and then had it removed and the new one replaced straightaway.

See your GP tomorrow! Have you tried paracetamol and codeine? That was the most effective thing that helped me when I was in pain from the misplaced coil.

Hope you manage to get some sleep tonight.

hmm, hadn't thought about the coil moving.

Had however thought of ectopic - having had one before, obviously why I only have one tube/ovary, but was doing reasonably good sticking-my-head-in-sand thing, was hoping it didn't stack up with the symptoms?

I couldn't tell my coil had moved from feeling it, it only showed up on an internal scan. It had slipped through the opening of my cervix, so was causing my womb to contract (to expel the foreign object), but it was stuck.

It was easily removed though, the fitting of the new one was a bit uncomfortable but over and done with quickly. I wasn't concious when I had the first one fitted as I had it done whilst I had a laporoscopy to investigate pelvic pain.

fuddled · 24/05/2010 23:32

ah, I see...
I had mine put in during a GA as well, the endometriosis and polyp tidy-up op.
Was the pain like contractions, tutu?

Yes, really bad period pain feel to them. Them came in waves like contractions with the pain building up, peaking and then dying down for a few minutes. I felt hot and sick as well, but that might have been because the pain was so bad.

This was before I had kids and after being in labour I would put it on a par with contractions at 4-5 cms.

fuddled · 25/05/2010 12:32

yes that sounds similar. I've been sent home from work this morning...

tutu100 · 25/05/2010 12:47

Have you rung your GP yet?

fuddled · 25/05/2010 12:52

Have been to the local NHS centre who had a waiting time of an hour and a half and then said it was IBS
wtf....

Still wondering whether to see own gp this afternoon or not

OP posts:
tutu100 · 25/05/2010 15:13

Go see you GP tell them it is an emergency and you need to be seen today. It could be something very simple, but it could be your coil has moved or as rasputin suggested and ectopic.

Please you really must see someone today even if just to get stronger painkillers.

tutu100 · 25/05/2010 15:14

and yes wtf to IBS!

fuddled · 25/05/2010 18:16

think I'll have ibuprofen tonight and hope things improve by tomorrow - or see if I can get an appointment

OP posts:
fuddled · 25/05/2010 20:46

OP posts:
Keziahhopes · 25/05/2010 22:36

you could go to out of hours dr's?

marriednotdead · 25/05/2010 22:51

Have you got anything anti-inflammatory in the house? Diclofenac are good. You do realise IBS and endometriosis are linked... I have managed to get a diagnosis for both in the last 9 months
An infection sounds possible tbh, sis had one recently and symptoms sound v similar.
I'll second the out of hours doc suggestion if it's still driving you nuts.

fuddled · 25/05/2010 23:08

thanks, MAND [love the name!] yes we've got diclofenac, will try anything now tbh. Am shaking from head to toe, not cold shivery, just shaking, which is horrible! Infection also sounding possible, unfortunately.
And no, I didn't know there was a link between IBS and endometriosis. makes sense though, now I think... and thank you.

fuddled · 25/05/2010 23:22

but thanks for your concern xx

marriednotdead · 26/05/2010 08:31

How are you feedling this morning fuddled? Defintely sounds like an infection.
Btw, the name came about after a group discussion about a gorgeous guy, someone said 'oh she (me) won't have noticed, she's married!' My retort was I'm married, not dead

marriednotdead · 26/05/2010 08:32

Feeling

tutu100 · 26/05/2010 15:50

Hope you've managed to see a GP today Fuddled. Please update with how you are.

sarah876 · 26/05/2010 19:05

have u thought it might be diverticulitis, the pain is always felt on the left hand side. I thought my pain was down to my ovaries but not any more I've also realised going to the toilet becomes erratic when Im getting these pains. Look it up x
