NHS Prescriptions.

I have just been prescribed a tiny tube of ointment. I duly paid £7.20 as its a prescription only item. I have now found that a tube double the size only costs less than £5.00 through an Online Pharmacy

I really feel ripped off. Does anyone know whether you can get a private prescription in these cases and will a NHS Doctor Charge?

Yes you can get a private prescription but it will cost you a lot more as you will need to pay for the Dr's time as well as the prescription (probably including a consultation).

That's how the prescription system is supposed to work. Some things cost a lot more some a lot less than the cost of the medication. Some ABs for example cost pence!

It's the way prescriptions work - everyone pays the same whether the actual cost of the drugs are 20p or 200 quid. Also, you pay the same irrespective of the number of items of the same drug you are prescribed at once - DH has eyedrops prescribed to him - a box is 4 quid over the counter, but he had 4 boxes from the GP for 7.20.

I don't think your GP will do a private prescription, but you can ask
