I don't thnk it is even a month since I last had it, tgot to ring the docs ina bit but they always just prescibe antibiotics over the phone, think I would like to see doctor to discuss why it happens so much.
Man I feel like pants, and it is my last ever week at work and I didn't really want to miss it..
dosed up so I can hopefully manage the school run.
Wonder if it is time to think about having them removed, anyine done it, is it bad, long recovery etc?

it's wretched isn't it? Can't eat, can't talk, total crap.

I only get it once or twice a year so not bad enough to get them removed but if I had it more often I'd be looking into the possibility of an op.

Get them out, it's about 10 days of hell, but no more sore throats.

ditavonteesed · 24/05/2010 08:02

have to actually get to see a doctor for that though.
Am really fed up, will be fine once I get some antibiotics, need to eat something so I can take some iburofen or I will be sick, which woould I think be like torture.

I know two adults who had their tonsils removed; one haemorraghed twice in the weeks afterwards and each time had to be blue lighted to a&e; the other can no long taste anything sweet as the surgeon severed one of the main nerves to her taste buds. She did not get compensation as it was a known complication of surgery.

Based on that, I would stick with the antibiotics if I were you. Get well soon.

Most consultants will not remove them unless there is serious infection and swelling. (at least 5 - 6 bouts a year)

The tonsils trap virus and sometimes you can get bouts. I am surrounded by pre-school children with virus after virus so I put some of it down to that.

People confuse bracterial against viral. In most cases its viral. So your doc prescribing antibiotics was naughty as there is eveidence at abs make no difference at all.

Hence, they are not actually infected. Mine swell and have spots. However if you google pictures of proper tonsilitus you can see what is proper bracterial. Mine are nothing like those pictures.

I know how poorly you can feel. I am in extreme pain all over my body. I take strong painkillers but abios just lower your immunity and in my experience are a waste of time as within 3 days you seem to start to remove anyway.

I did look at having them removed but if I do it will be private by lazer treatment in London. You can be up and about next day.

bacon that sounds good, everything actually went a bit wrong and I have been inhospital and docs in hospital said I had to get them removed when I am better, swelled up so much I couldn't swallow, dehydrated and got a mega high temp, 24 hours on antibiotic and fluid drips and I am back to a normal level of tonslitus.

Go straight to the chemist or your local Sainsbury's and get some hydrogen peroxide solution - mix with appropriate amount of water and gargle - you will get a bubbly solution at the back of your throat which will be the bacteria oxidising and dying - do a few times and then swish with cold fresh water - will taste like what I imagine licking a mangy foxes arse tastes like (yes it is that bad!) your tonsilitus will be gone in 24 hours without the need for anti biotics - just take paracetamol in the meantime.

I guarantee you this works - I had tonsilitus every month with my period for years until the doctor finally agreed to refer me to having them out - inthe meantime I became immune to the anti biotics they prescribed for bad throats and am now allergic to them - having your tonsils out as an adult is dire - I would rather have my perenium restitched or an ovarian cyst burst (both of which I have had) than have my tonsils out.

Plus point is that hydrogen peroxide is only about 60p so cheaper than a prescription and makes your teeth very clean int he process! Oh and you can use it for anything that is infected - cuts, grazes, ingrowing toenails - is bloody brilliant stuff - just don;t put it in eyes or swallow the stuff or you will come a cropper!
