Help - nasty bites!

Over the past few weeks I have woken up several times with really itchy insect bites on (at various times) my arms, hands, feet, back and face. I have no idea what causes them and the weird thing is that my DH hasn't been bitten at all.

We have no pets but have nonetheless twice sprayed the carpet in the bedroom to get rid of any fleas. Our bed and bedding are only just over a year old and there is no sign of bed bugs. Our house, though not immaculate is reasonably clean and I really can't imagine what it is that is biting me.

I don't know what else to do since we have tried spraying, and it is really getting to me now - the bites swell up a lot and at one point I could't even open one of my eyes because of a reaction to a bite on the eyebrow.

Any suggestions please? I'm getting to the stage where I'm thinking of replacing all our bedding, but that would cost a fortune and might not even solve the problem.

Please help! Thanks!

how do you know they are insect bites? could you describe the spots?

upsoearly · 22/05/2010 07:52

I just assumed they were bites - couldn't imagine what else they would be. Usually a smallish white spot and then a larger inflamed area all around.

It does sound like bedbugs, I'm afraid. Have a look online and go searching.

Some people don't react to the bites, so that may be what's happening with your DH.

Oh God, please don't say that, Aren't they a nightmare to get rid of?

hows your thyroid?

do they spots have a pus filled centre?

are they in rows?

have you looked at your sheet. adult bed bugs are visible to the eye.

I have no idea how my thyroid is! Why, what else could it be? Am getting more nervous each time I check this thread!

The spots are not pus filled. They are kind of hard in the centre. Mostly there is just one of them at a time, though I have had one row of them (on my eyebrow - very attractive!).

I have looked at sheets (every night for weeks now!) and not been able to see anything. DH is supposed to be taking mattress off to check bedframe tomorrow (I am pregnant, not just pathetic).

Am so hoping it is not bedbugs, but can't imagine what else it could be.

Adult bedbugs are not that visible, as they hide - apparently mostly in seams of mattresses. I think you can see their feces, which are browny black splodges (they only eat blood).

I'm afraid they are a complete and utter nightmare to get rid of, so I really hope it's not that.

The bites are often in rows.

Here is a bedbug. Here is their lifecycle. Here are some bites. And here and here are some pictures of their feces.
