Eye Floaters - feeling desperate - positive stories only please

I'm not sure if anyone can help me but I'm feeling terribly frightened and desperate. My darling daughter is 3 months old and absolutely gorgeous. However, during the last few months of pregnancy I seemed to develope a few stringy eye floaters that I ocassionally saw on white walls etc.

However, during the last 6 weeks these have become far far worse - I have dots / cobwebs in both eyes. They are totally distracting when I move my eyes as they swirl about. I've seen a consultant who didn't seem at all bothered by them and said I'd just have to get used to them. This seems impossible as they are so incredibly intrusive (I have about 9 in each eye). Has anyone a positive story about eye floaters and how they no longer see them despite feeling as desperate as me? I realise they never go away but I can't believe my brain will eventually stop seeing them. They really are terrible and I'm getting to the point where I don't think I can cope with them anymore - they are totally exhausting me.

How are things now you are back on the anti depressants??

Nursed123 · 20/04/2016 20:27

I'm sure it's all connected, people say it isn't but it's so common to see them with anxiety.xx

Tlslone21 · 20/04/2016 23:22

I haven't been on the antidepressants long enough to ignore, I do believe your right about the anxiety cause when I seen them before they about drove me nuts and then got on zoloft and seemed to forget about them or just didn't care and now I have noticed them bad since the anxiety is back. It's like they have multiplied. Are the ones you have like enormous globs?

Nursed123 · 21/04/2016 07:38

I've got all different ones. I've got a couple of darker blobs, a few lines and a really annoying clear worm shaped one in my left eye! Xx

Hi
My floater started the day after my 65thbirthday and as of writing on Nov 2016 are still here mostly in right eye although optician can see many in left eye that .I can't see. There are 4 of them a round one a cloud shaped one a square one and a long one and they move about and bang about every second and every minute of the day.i have tried hypnotherapy and supplements any eye exercises but nothing works. Some days they are worse than others.I can't see that they will ever go away.I am lucky enough to have a contact lens contract which means that I get my eye checked every three months and so far there is no detachment.the floaters are much less noticeable with lenses than glasses.I have heard that they do get less after a year.it is a bad idea to take antidepressant.s

How are floaters related to glaucoma?

angiesmithy · 28/10/2018 11:04

Echops mine are bad too. Can’t ignore them.

underneaththeash · 29/10/2018 05:01

Angie - they aren't associated with glaucoma. Have you had yours checked out at the opticians?

Arnoldthecat · 03/11/2018 21:26

If you have sudden onset floaters it is imperative that you have a thorough check up as soon as possible with a good skilled optometrist. If its an optometrist who has an OCT scanner,so much the better. Floaters can be an indicator or precursor for other things such as PVD or worse case scenario, retinal tear or potential detachment.

Take no chances

angiesmithy · 23/11/2018 06:49

What does floaters have to do with glaucoma?

angiesmithy · 23/11/2018 06:50

Someone above asked if she had been checked for glaucoma? As of assuming they are related

Are you doing any better

Hi @echops I know this is an old thread but I wondered how you were getting on. I've been going through the same and struggling to see when I might 'forget' about these floaters. I know I've always had some (from being very young I didn't know what they were) I had my eyes tested about 4 months ago after having my little girl (everything was fine) I had my eyes dilated to check the floaters as if said yes to having them but they'd never bothered me and rarely saw them at all! Then a couple months later after an awful virus I started seeing them everywhere and 10x worse than before- not just on walls and blue skies and they were bigger and 'blobbier'. Did anything help you in the end? I'm still googling it most days and its driving me mad!

Mumma1984 · 10/10/2019 15:54

I had these really bad when I was obsessed (we'll still am a bit) about neuro diseases. I saw the optician etc all fine - he said everyone gets them inc him. I'll tell you what when you stop thinking about them you def do begin to stop noticing them! Xx

Chkychoppy · 01/04/2023 21:13

@echops I really hope you're well! Please could you update us, we'd love to hear how you're doing :-) also @Tlslone21 I hope you're ok, how're they now
