I had a filling done on Wednesday afternoon, but part of my tongue is still numb 2 days later (can't feel hot tea numb). Feels odd, but should I be worried?

Not sure, best you call to speak to the Dentist who gave it to you. Its does sound a bit strange that it hasnt worn off.

Just wanted to check if it really is odd, hate being fobbed off with "well, call again in a few days....."

I really think it should have worn off at the end of the day before bedtime on Wed. Also , as well as asking dentist for advice go On Line and ask doctors on the net.

Thanks.

I've never had a local which lasted till the following day - you certainly need to go back to the dentist to discuss it.

Was the work being done very deep? I don't wish to alarm you unnecessarily, but when I had a wisdom tooth extracted under GA, a nerve was damaged and the numb feeling has never gone away. But that was very deep into the jaw, so I'm not sure whether anything like that could happen with a filling and a local anaesthetic.

Well spoke to recpetionist at Dentists who said call back on Monday if you are worried, but that "these things happen". Which was nice.

Injection was into the very back of my jaw and the bits that aren't numb are still sore. Don't want a numb tongue! Need to find out what taste buds are located at the back, right hand side....

I never like "these things happen" when it comes to anything medical . I guess you just have to see how much it improves by Monday and then get in touch if it's still numb. FWIW the wait won't make a difference - if a nerve has been damaged it will either improve over time, or it won't, and I don't think there's anything that can be done about it.

Sorry not to be more cheery about it, but 15 years of "altered sensation" in my tongue and chin doesn't fill me with confidence about it.

Sorry to hear about your tongue and chin. And thanks for responding.

Off to go enjoy and sunny weekend and hope for the best!
