Someone please help - what do you do to try and stop really severe PMT?

Title says it all really. Got two children from 4 pregnancies and since having DS 2.5 years ago, I'm having severe low moods for about 2-3 weeks a month. Cycle is 6 weeks. First 2 weeks are fine. Then I'm really grumpy (and I mean filthly so!) around ovulation, then I improve for a few days and then about 10 days before my period my boobs start aching like I'm pregnant and I just become either lethargic and grumpy or weepy and emotional!

I cried over an episode of Glee FGS this week!

I'm at the end of my tether about it all and just wondered if anyone had any advice/herbal remedies/vitamins I should try?

Can't have any hormones as not allowed COC and hormonal coil sent me completely loopy!! (maybe I'm just a loopy mess generally?!).

Thanks for any advice - period due tomorrow, so starting to feel some relief (complete with stomach cramps!).

I found acupuncture really helped me with dreadful raging PMT years ago. Am not menopausal and hormones are surging again so will try it again.

Exercise lifts my mood. Don't really feel like it but it does work even if just a brisk walk around the park.

I can't used the combined pill (is that what COC means?) but the progesterone-only pill has been fine for me and has really helped with PMT - I used to feel quite dreadful for a week or so before my period, and now I just get a bit twitchy for a few hours before. So much more manageable.

Before the POP I used evening primrose oil, which did help, esp with sore boobs!

I thought I was the only one who got pmt when I ovulated!

Mega doses of vitamin B6 (multiples of RDA) work for me - I haven't run amok with a breadknife once.

Thanks all - just back from pilates (and yes exercise does help, just hard with DC around!) - but pilates should so be available on prescription!!! It's fab - I currently feel fantastic!

I'll try the B6 and evening primrose oil. Having had such a bad experience with the progestogen coil, I think I'll avoid the POP.

Just hoping it is not the start of the menopause, but I'm only in my mid-30's.....

Right - off to share my current light mood with my poor put-upon DH!!

ps Lisa - glad I'm not the only one too!! I did think I was a bit mad having ovulation PMT!!!

Bless you. There are two weeks a month in this house when DH and DD know not to "push muumy's buttons for fear of explosion"

Also known as ovulation PMT. It's more common than you'd think!

I have a t-shirt that says that! "push my buttons and I'll explode!"

Ev Prim Oil, super multivits and a varied diet are the only things that help me as additional hormone remedies make me even more of a pyscho!

My DH is amazing. God knows why he puts up with me.....

Glad you've found something that helps and by the way, crying at Glee is the norm for me!

Off to dig out a huge bar of chocolate, look at it and then put it away.

I've been taking vit B complex and I'm really impressed at the change in my moods. Though tbh I dont know if my problem was pmt or just general mood swings all month long!

The most notable changes are more motivation and while I still lose my rag, its far less often and I am not reaching that red-mist stage at all, situations that might have had me screaming myself hoarse and chucking things now feel far less infuriating, to the point that I might just mutter a ffs and thats thats.

I'm brooding over things far less and feel far more pragmatic and capable and calm.

Have a read up on vit Bdeficiency, it might ring a few bells.

I cant reccomend it enough.
