Every so often her tummy bloats up and she looks pregnant, she is 3, and at night she wakes up crying from pain, and when I go up she is on her tummy, all curled up and trying to relief the pain. She has been tested for Coelic disease which was negative, and the GP thought she might be allergy to milk, but its not all the time. I have to rub her tummy and it feels knotted. When I asked her earlier where its hurts she said tummy, and when I said here, just below her belly button, she fliched hard and said yes. WHat could it be??

Sounds like a food intolerance causing tummy ache/bloating etc. to me. How about keeping a food diary for a couple of weeks and noting down when/how severely it happens and see if there is any obvious trigger foods as a starting point.
My youngest sister used to suffer from bloating and trapped wind as a child and found several different foods triggered it so avoided them - bananas and wheat based products were the worst I think. She stayed off them and gradually reintroduced them when older. I think I am right in thinking that some allergies/food intolerances come and go and sometimes people can become more sensitised after an illness or upset tum for a period of time so not necessarily a permanent problem and may explain why she has been ok in the past.
Good luck.

try monosodium glutamate its in crisps stock cubes drt packet sauces and some ready meals it makes me severely ill(bedridden) (sickness tummy cramps etc etc ) its evil stuff totally manmade /unatural it could be this even if it isnt its still worth avoiding

we ahve noticed this problem for over a year, but have had problems getting the GP to test for things, they are refusing to do any food allergy tests, they did the coelic one for us. She has had a lot of wheat based products today, so I do wonder. She looks ill all the time and had ezcema too. She also is small for her age

LOL i have a farter too . My dd gets a very swollen hard tummy just before doing a poo. Is it not related to trapped wind/poo ?

how about a vega test they can be useful/point you in right direction

sparklymieow · 05/08/2005 00:32

she might have had a banana while I was out, Dh was looking after her while I took dd1 to the clinic, but she only eats bananas and grapes. She drinks plenty of juice and milk.

food allergy test usually done independantly (of nhs}
most docs will poo poo it but my friend had it done and the things she showed an intolerance for were things she already disliked and didnt eat so it seems like it could be a fair indicator

lunachic · 05/08/2005 01:12

grapes are bad for wind arent they ? remember from breastfeeding

Seems like food intolerance to me, DS was the same for months until we order a test and cow's milk came as one of the worst offenders (a complete surprise tbh). We have changed to rice milk and he is not getting bloated anymore, however, the fact that she has a blowthed tummy doesn't meant that she is intolerant to milk, she maybe intolerant to any other thing.

Forget about allergy testing, it will take years even if you started the process a few months ago. You can ask your GP for an appointment with the dietician at the hospital (we asked for one back in april and we finally got the apointment...for the end of December!!!). I think that until then your best bet to find the culprit is to keep a diary.
