Not a big issue but it blooming hurts. Had blood taken from usual place 'behind' elbow, the creasey bit, and one of those thingies left in (IV/Canuler?) When he started in was so much more painful than usual , actually made me jump and gasp (I don't like it but am pretty used to it now being pregnant etc.), I bled over the bed (never happened before) but the oddest thing was I could have sworn he did the same to my wrist at the same time. The pain was identical, then it felt like a vien went ping on the side of my wrist and has been painful since. Nothing was there when he was finished and I looked but it's painful when I brush over the skin gently or use my wrist. Whatever it is will no doubt heal, just so curious to know what it was. Was it a vein popping? [heebeegeebies]

I have had this before my arm also went numb and tingly.
Not sure what it was but I had a massive bruise all the way down the inside of my arm for a few days after, I just assumed I was unlucky and got someone who was rubbish at taking bloody.

*Blood .

So he didn't touch your wrist at all? How strange.

Maybe the pain is from a nerve that goes from your wrist to your elbow? That is just a guess btw.

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 18/05/2010 13:46

He didn't touch it at all, I at least expected him to have accidently done something but he wasn't even near it when I peeked a look. A few hours later a nurse attempted to put on in my other side and even though it went in it wasn't in a vein, and she flushed it then took it out (again bled over the bed - so much for clotting issues!) - now I am wondering where this water went if it wasn't in a vein! The whole business freaks me out. Doesn't help the poor sods I have hard to see veins and they are in and out of every 'port' like sailors trying to get something decent - not the best thing for a total needle phobic (which I do try and hide!) I had one once that started being pushed out again and they tried to force some stuff in and it wouldn't go. I was like "oh, it's ok, don't worry" as they apologised and said they had to try some different places etc. when I really wanted to run screaming down the corridor! Err, anyway [waffle] wonder what the ping was...

Facing this all head on as am due in 6 weeks and I just know I will have every injection/blood test/ drip that they can think of

If the fluid they inject doesn't go into the vein that is would immediately swell up at the site of the injection, and it would be hard to inject, so the doctor/nurse would know to stop injecting immediately.

Sometimes it can be a difficult procedure even for someone with plenty of experience.

Sorry that you are still in pain and traumatised!

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 18/05/2010 14:04

Ah that's good, was wondering if it was going to drip out a pore somewhere I don't envy them having to do it, esp. not on my bad veins, I have had so many doctors/nurses not be able to do it first time or at all and have to get someone else - I feel very sorry when an eager student comes along because it is a total PITA for them. I have my 'it's ok, that didn't hurt at all , you did a great job' smile mastered I did ask the nurse about the snap in my wrist but she just kind of made an "mmm" noise

well if it gets any more painful/red/swollen/hot, then see your doctor, but hopefully if will feel better soon.

I wonder if the doctor pressed on the inside of your elbow so hard he pressed the bone and this is what you felt move in your wrist? That's another guess btw.

belgo · 18/05/2010 14:21

or maybe the tendon made the pinging sound in your wrist.

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 18/05/2010 14:47

I am sure it'll clear up, I'm not worried more curious as to what it could be. It's still sort of pinging now from time to time, like someone flicking an elestic band on the side of my wrist, so gross but fascinating!

it does sound like the tendon then

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 18/05/2010 15:36

Urgh. Will it repair itself? Wonder how it happened...
