Severe cold/flu/something else? Is there something going round at the moment?

This is likely to be long as I'm the queen of waffle, but will try to keep it brief!

For a couple of weeks now, DD (2.4) has been bunged up at night and snoring really loudly. No sign of any blockage during the day, but gradually getting worse at night. Then, Tuesday night she went to bed fine but woke up around 11pm red hot and asking for a drink.

We controlled her temp with calpol & calprofen and put it all down to teething, - she still has two back teeth that have been threatening to come through on the same side for ages.

By Friday morning, she seemed happier and more herself. However, as the day went on she began to deteriorate again. No temp this time but v tired and listless, sore throat and nose beginning to run like a tap. She has been sleeping up to 4 hours a day and then going back to bed at normal bedtime.

She is still suffering, nose getting worse but throat seems to be on the mend. Its obviously giving her a really sore nose as we have had (tmi coming up) a couple of lumps of bloody snot come out today. She has also had a couple of runny nappies, but I put that down to the fact that she is eating next to nothing (she is drinking plenty) rather than a sympton in itself.

Meanwhile, I woke up Saturday morning feeling horrendous, could not sit up in bed without feeling sick and was generally achy. Felt a bit better by Saturday night, but yesterday spent about 4 hours unable to move off the sofa. Aching body, ears, back, neck, you name it, it hurt! If I so much as lifted my head off the cushion I felt dizzy and sick. Dosed myself with Ibuprofen and again felt better by the evening. This morning I am better than I was, but have a really sore throat and the snot is now starting to come. DH is, miraculously, fine

Anyway, the point of all that info is really that I have been lucky enough never to have experienced flu, and TBH I rarely even catch any of DD's colds, so I just don't know if these symptoms are anything to be concerned about or if I just need to let it work its way out in the usual way. I don't want to take DD to the doc's and spread it round the whole place only to be told to go away and wait for it to get better, but OTOH I don't want to be complacent about it and deny her any treatment if she needs it. It's not that I'm not taking this seriously, but looking at NHS direct, it seems that it could be anything from a cold to swine flu, although DD has had the jab a few months ago and I know that with colds and flu there's really not much you can do except sit it out. However the lack of food and the fact that it seems to be going on and on concerns me.

Okay, so not very brief but thanks for sticking with me if you made it through to the end! Any advice or shared experiences would be welcome, also don't mind being told I am being PFB!

there is something nasty going round dds school (and the doctors surgery by the look of it)

hope you feel better soon.

Well done for ploughing through OYBBK, and hoping you manage to avoid it.

Think it is affecting my brain - am lazing on the sofa watching This Morning while DD sleeps and I swear Phil Vickery just said the dish he was cooking was 'a bit shitty'. Sure Schof also said 'fuck' earlier.

its the new day time telly you know!

Make sure that you really take it as easy as you can, the people who I know have had it have had it drag on for ages. Take care of yourself!

Thankyou!

I think you are right about it dragging on. Though I was feeling much better this mornin compared to yesterday, but now sitting shivering in 33 degrees of heat. (Don't live in the tropics, just got a really stuffy front room!)
