Is my GP likely to prescribe me the pill purely so I don't have a period on holiday?

They're heavy enough to be a complete PITA when in swimwear.

However, I don't want to waste his time if he's likely to give me a withering look and say "Mrs Dragon, we don't do that kind of thing,"

they'll give you notheristerine or something like that, it delays your period.

ShinyAndNew · 17/05/2010 10:36

You don't have to tell him why you want it, you know.

The injection normally stops periods doesn't it?

LaDiDaDi · 17/05/2010 10:36

Of course he will! No reason not to, did it for me when I was young (started periods at 9 so well before I needed contraception).

SoupDragon · 17/05/2010 10:44

I thought he might but it seems such a frivolous reason.

I would have to tell him why I need it or have to come up with a reason I only need such a short supply, should he ask

Thanks

Notheristerine was prescribed for my teenage daughter to avoid her period whilst on holiday(hers are very heavy). The doctor was fine about it. You need to start taking them three days before you expect your period to start. Your period should begin within 72 hours of stopping taking the tablets.

AlicesWonderland · 17/05/2010 11:13

I went and I had the exact same prob and was prescribed Notheristerine and it's exactly as kingprawntikka says, although I was told that you could only take them for a max of ten days??

Anyway in the meantime I've had the implant Implanon thingy put in my arm and that has sorted my period out completely it's very very light now much better , I'd previously had the coil but that fell out as I was on so heavily!

He will give you a script for norethisterone.

We give out loads for just this reason. Just ask for it to delay your period, he will have heard it a thousand times before. (Or if you have a nurse practitioner ask her).

Sidge · 17/05/2010 11:15

Forgot to say, you don't want the pill, you just want norethisterone. You start it a few days before your period is due and stop it when you get home then as said before, you will bleed within a few days of stopping it.

Fab. I'll just go, say what I need and see what I end up with.

Although I had fancied a whole summer off, so to speak Best bit about being pregnant was no periods (but I'm not going down that route! LOL)
