Posting here rather than childs as ds is 13 .

Ds has a gastro appoimemt on Tuesday due to having problems with loose foul smelling stools for good few years has also had blood in stools .appointment came about as ds had quite large rectal bleed and thankfully have new gp who was quick of ball with referal. He is also very under weight weighs in around 6 stone and is about 5,10 and eats like a horse have upped his carbs and his fats

Only time bowels ever really cleared up was when on high steroids for his asthma

He did have one fast ultra sound after bleed where thunk they was looking for an obvious bowel flair up but nothing major showed up

What sort of things are they likely to ask him/me and are they likely order any tests of do anything in future or will he just have to deal with

The loose, smelly stools and inability to put on weight may have something to do with pancreatic insufficiency. I'd ask them to check his upper GI, not just the bowel.

Ty

Would not though about that just tended to think. The loose stools were to blame

when I say he eats a lit I mean a lot 4000 calories plus a day

I'd definitely get them to check. If the pancreas isn't producing enough enzymes, the body can't cope with breaking down fat, and just flushes it back out.

How did it go with the GP?

There is a stong link b/w Crohns and celiac/gluten intolerance, has anyone suggested gluten-free diet?
Bloods can be inconclusive and even biopsy, as they only take microscopic sample of the gut which is approx 5 meters long.
The problem with meds for crohns is that they cover up the symptoms not the cause. If diet response is good, then once the offending food is removed, you don't need meds.
One research paper here, try pubmed for more

crohns & celiac
