Salt mouthwash

Hi! I have a suspected abscess in my jaw due to an ongoing problem with a tooth that they were reluctant to fix until I had stopped Breast Feeding. I've just spoken to the emergency dentist, who has advised that I use a salt mouthwash and as I'm not in any pain - just have the swelling - to see him first thing tomorrow morning and probably have to have a course of antibiotics.

I've now come off the phone and realised that I don't actually know how much salt to put in a cup of water to do the mouth wash!! Has any one ever had to do this?

TIA!

Just 1 teaspoon. You need to make it with boiling water, then let it cool so its just warm when you use it. Boiling it is important so that its sterile.

Hope that helps! Good luck and hopefully the dentist will be able to sort it out for you tomorrow xx

Thanks for the reply! I wasn't sure and didn't want to use too much salt!! Have done a couple of washes already, so hopefully it will stop it from getting any worse! Still no pain, so hoping that holds off until I can see the dentist, too!!
