I broke my fibula right by the ankle 2 weeks ago. Had an operation (reduction and fixation which I think means plates and pins)
Have had 2 weeks with the leg elevated, get stitches and new cast on monday but willbe non weight bearing for another 6 weeks.
I am not in pain but my leg does get a bit swollen when I am on crutches on sitting (even for brief periods)

A dear friend is getting married next weekend but it is a 3 hour drive from home so I will be stuck there. Am I crazy to consider going? Psychologically it would be a lift to see friends but I worried about drunken antics and feeling miserabel and in pain when I am there.

Any experiences of this sort of injury? I also have no idea how i will cope going back to work without keeping my leg up all the time.

any advice welcome

can they fit you with an Air Cast bootaircast FP Walker I had mine pinned and they never set it in plaster, because the pins and plates hold it in place. The air cast boot is alot more comfortable and you can take it off at night or whenever you want too. I wore mine for 6-8 weeks after my op. Unfortunately my leg still swelled after 6 months but hopefully yours wont.

Borrow a chair with a leg raise from the Red Cross. Someone came to my wedding with a broken foot. The hotel staff were great - got him pillows to go underneath, chairs etc. Even popping in to bring him drinks, buffet food etc now and then. I'd go. Just don't drive obviously

hello thank you all for your replies I deleted my previous post as I had signed off with my full name!

This is really encouraging I thought you would all say I was crazy for considering.

So, have hired a wheelchair and went to go and get a 2nd opinion and they have agreed to fit me with an air boot in 2 weeks. Have had stitches out and it feels so much better already, no pulling and tugging!

Have also got a bath chair so I can comfortably get in and out of the shower.

Anypaly - were you weight bearing straight away on the air boot?

Just thought I would give you an update! After 4 weeks in plaster and 3 in an air boot I am now out of plaster. Weight bearing has been fine but its so flipping stiff!

Am having physio 4 days a week, hoping to get back to some sort of normality soon!
