Hi, I have a sharp intermittent pain in my left ovary and am due on in a few days. I have this on and off since ds was born but only on the left side.
2 questions please 1) is this normal and 2) could it be a cyst?
TIA

Difficult to say as ovary pain is normal for me.
Suggest going to get it checked out as it is the only way to find out for sure.

Thank you, I get ovulation pain but not always pmt pain. I didn't want to google it as thought here would be a less scary option for advice!

I used to get it before, although lately it seems to be only around ovulation time.
Could by cysts. Go and have a scan.

Thank you, I was wondering if cysts have any other symptoms?

Not necessarily. Apparently they can burst, causing pain, as well. In any case they are very common and they can be functional or organic, so it's a good idea perhaps to have a scan to make sure you don't have an organic one (which is still v.common and usually not sinister at all, but best to find out what type exactly it is- there are many).
But don't stress, I used to get this pain and used to get cysts, some functional, some they couldn't really tell, but they always resolved on their own. Had 3 very strange ones ( even the scan doc was perplexed) recently post-termination, but my doctor wasn't worried, scheduled me for a scan few weeks later, said they might operate blah blah but not as in it's serious, but they all have resolved by then.
I think in general it's a good idea to have a smear once every two years plus a scan here and there (here, in France, a lot of gyneo have ultrasound in their office, so it's not a nightmare of getting referred etc).

Are you 100% sure it's the ovary? I had pain in that area and the GP reckoned it was stress-related IBS - it has since gone away. But get it checked.

winnybella · 13/05/2010 21:50

Oh, yes, and it could also be your colon perhaps? Are you constipated?

MunchkinsMumof2 · 13/05/2010 22:46

Sorry, have been watching tv! My GP referred me for a colonoscopy 2 years ago but the results were inconclusive. I do have IBS but am not constipated at the moment. I think I should see the GP again as it has been going on for 2+ years.
Thanks for all the advice.
