I am in incredible pain with a dodgy tooth, which is crowned and therefore doesn't have much to grab above the gum.

I was reading about what might need doing, in order to get it out, and it terrified me...has anyone been through this? I suppose I'm just after info and reassurance...it needs to come out, have got appt for tomorrow pm and can't wait because it hurts so much.

Just wondering how they will actually do it.
Thanks

i don't know the answer but will be watching with interest as ds3 headbutted me in the mouth 'tother day and on the 24th i have to have what's left of the tooth removed (it snapped off leaving about 3mm free above gum level.

That sounds painful - is it very sore?

I had one out that had been previously crowned and it was fine - presume there must have been something to get hold of. The older I get the less I like going to the dentist so you have my every sympathy.

The quicker the better, DMF...I have been crying all afternoon with the pain, which codeine does not seem to touch

The nerve is long gone but apparently there could be infection under the actual root. The option was there to see if the antibiotics sorted it but I realise they are a temporary solution...I would have it out right now if someone knocked on the door and offered. It's horrible.

How did they get at yours to take it out?

I had one out that had snapped at gum level,it was a very long time ago but it wasn't too awful,if you've ever had a tooth out then it wasn't noticably different from that.(I had quite a few taken out due to overcrowding when I was about ten)the worst bit is when you don't want to touch the hole with your tongue. It does ache rather afterwards so you need a decent painkiller for a couple of days, but it heals up really quickly.
