i was wondering if this is normal?

i was feeling ok so went for my first walk outside with the baby, just got home and my lochia - which had been brown and almost stopped - has suddenly started again, very heavy and bright red, i can actually feel it running out of me (sorry, tmi)

is this normal or has something bad happened? i feel ok, but was quite tired and light headed after the walk (about 20mins and up a few hills - i probably did overdo it a little...)

not sure whether to just put my feet up for the rest of the day or go to a&e?

Call the MW, best to be safe.

Alternatively phone your GP.

Lochia increases when you're overdoing it.

I had Em CS and had this question myself and phoned MW who told me that (and this is a bit hmm tmi) as the flow increases it will get more red as its reached your pad faster from the uterus whereas when you're resting it flows slower and oxidises and turns brown before it reached pad/knickers/bedlinen...

And (sorry tmi/yuk etc) there is generally only cause for concern if you're soaking maternity pad in an hour and/or you are passing (sorry it gets more gross) large clots and large clots need to be about egg sizeish apparently.

Phew that was a bit erm yikes. Hope it helps tho.

Walking is also good for healing etc but don't over do.

And that should be 3 maternity pads in an hour!

But if you're worried call MW or GP

I know this sounds mad and I wouldn't say it if it hadn't happened to me, but it could be a period.

This happened to me after all three babies and midwives told me to do less etc. But, bang on, 4 weeks later, it happened again. And again. I had 3 C-sections too - I don't know if this is connected in some way.

They may try to put you on ABs in case of retained placenta/infection etc. I took them first time round but I went to my GP and she said it is possible to start periods v early. I was fully breastfeeding as well!

Worth getting checked out though...
