Hypercalcaemia - the hallucinations in particular

Has anyone here had this, or any experience of it? My Dad had this last year and experienced some very dark halluciations, which still move him to tears. I have never seen him in tears before. I'm wondering if these fade with time but can't find any info on it.

Hallucinations are terrifying and it is very difficult to regain your sense of self once you have been through something like that. It will be less frightening with time, as he gets more confident that he is through that, but it may help him to talk about it.

What caused his hypercalcaemia?

Non hodgkins lymphoma. He has done amazingly well and is now in remission However, he was in a bad way last summer. It was a good 2 or 3 months before all the confusion stopped, although the hallcinations didn't go on for the whole 2 months. A lot of them he is now ok about, but he did have a few weeks where he thought several of us had died and this is what comes back to him. It would be good to know this might ease

I think the best thing you can do is reassure him that it was not real, however real it felt, and not unusual when you have hypercalcaemia.

You can also reassure him that it will not get bad like that again because he is in remission, and presumably monitored so his calcium levels do not rise again if problems do recur.

It will take time for him to feel safe, but hopefully he will get his confidence back.

Glad to hear he is in remission
