Piriformis Syndrome - Anyone suffer ?

I've been having a lot of pain in the front of my hip and lower back for several months now which has led to having an MRI.

The scan showed a small Hip Labrum tear. My consultant organised a cortisone injection into my hip to a) aid diagnosis and b) as a therapy treatment.

The consultant who did the injection suspected major inflammation was the cause of the problem. It's been a week since the injection and I think there is a small improvement.
I think basically the 'Hip' consultant has washed his hands for now as the MRI didn't show anything significant apart from the small tear.

I still have pain in my hip on internal rotation but the achey pain in my buttock has got worse. I just want to knead it and release the tightness that I feel - it's annoyingly uncomfortable as opposed to a really sharp painful pain (iyswim).

I'm wondering if I am sufferring from Piriformus syndrome. My legs ache and my calves feel really tight at times with mild cramps. Sort of fatigued.

The pain across the front of my hip is pretty painful if I have been sitting for a while/ driving. Is this a marker for PS ?

Does anyone else suffer & do my symptoms sound familiar ? Is a Physiotherapist the best person to diagnose this ?

I don't know and I can't tell but I would certainly see a physio for this. I suffered from terrible piriformis spasms at one point and the physio was able to relieve some of the pain.

I have sciatica caused by piriformis syndrome. I've been referred to the physio but I find that my osteopath helps. I'm in such agony still but it does help a bit.

had this....tried osteo and pilates which have made it 95% better.

see a physio ASAP; pointless trying to diagnose yourself.

The physio released mine and recommended pilates. I occasionally do the back pilates exercises if I feel the spasm is coming.

I also do free dumbell weights now as well to strengthen up my thighs.

If it is piriformis syndrome then a good medical acupuncturist should be able to help a lot. Ask your GP or physio if they can refer you (or do it themselves). Or you could look on the BMAS website, it might have listings (on phone or would do it for you!).
