New Wisdom Tooth

My wisdom tooth on the bottom right hand side of my mouth has been coming through for about a year, maybe even more. In the last few months it has really started to come through. At some points it has been a little bit uncomfortable for a few hours or maybe a day but not that painful.
However it has been uncomfortable and a little bit painful for the last week now. Is this normal? I'm really worried that there could be an infection or something else causing the pain.

Are wisdom teeth supposed to be a bit painful when coming through? I hope that's the case and I don't have an infection.

I thought that my partially erupted wisdom tooth was finally coming through as it started to hurt a lot. Went to dentist and unfortunately it WAS an infection.

The tooth still hasn't come through (been like this for about 15 years probably).

So if it is really painful maybe best to check with dentist.

Thanks for your reply. It is getting more painful but it's still not too bad. It' come through quite a way, I can nearly see the whole surface apart from one small bit.

I'm going to hold out until tomorrow. I really hope I don't have to go to the dentist because my dentist is over 500 miles away!

Just bumping.

Pain is a little bit worse. I tried to phone the local emergency dentist but I got linked to NHS 24. Someone will all me in the next 3 hours. I just want to know if this is normal pain, if so I will deal with it. If not then I want some help.

I'm not a dentist but do have a wisdom tooth that is only part of the way through. If yours is the same as mine, it could be that there is a flap of skin still over the tooth and food gets caught underneath it and this will cause a slight infection, I was told by my dentist to just rub alittle Corsodyl gel on it after you have brushed your teeth for a couple of days. This seems to then clear the infection very quickly.
Hope this helps!!

Thanks for your replies. I've just been to the emergency dentist and I have to go back to have a tooth out. The wisdom tooth on my lower jaw is clashing with a molar on my top jaw.
I now have to pick which tooth I want taken out because my jaw is starting to go off centre. No wonder it hurts!
