Tranexamic acid

I've been prescribed Tranexamic acid to help with my excessive bleeding during my period. I've been taking it this month and so far the bleeding is a little better but now I'm having really horrendous pain. Is this a normally expected side effect?

I never had pain, no. Just greatly reduced bleeding

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios · 09/05/2010 12:25

same as cyb. Periods have actually been less painful since I started taking it. I'd ring gp on Monday maybe. Is more pain a listed side effect on the pamphlet?

cocolepew · 09/05/2010 12:29

I had to stop taking it the first time I used it because of the pain. I mentioned it to my Gynae who shrugged and said "yes that can happen". It was so bad I never tried it again.

Blottedcopybook · 09/05/2010 12:58

Not listed on the pamphlet, no. It's horrendous, I'm curled up in a ball almost weeping

It mentions abdominal pain here. I was in absolute agnoy as well.

I was prescribed Tranexamic Acid and it helped the bleding a lot with no pain. But it concerned me that I was taking something that increases your blood's ability to clot.

I subsequently had endometrial ablation - I've posted a few times about it. If you don't want more children it's the perfect solution. Nearly 3/4 women don't bleed at all afterwards. I have a little - I just need a panty lineer 1 or 2 days a month. It's bliss - so liberating!

cocolepew · 09/05/2010 16:50

I had an ablation too, it changed my life.

Blotted

Who prescribed the transexamic acid, was it the GP?.

With symptoms like the ones you're displaying you ought to be seen by a gynae asap as endometriosis can cause both the problems you describe.

fortyplus · 09/05/2010 18:39

There's a thread now asking about endometrial ablation www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/961847-Endometrial-Ablation-has-anyone-here-had-it

I tried tranexamic acid for heavy periods and it gave me dreadful headaches.

I now take mefanamic acid and it works well.

I may well look into endometrial ablation once I am sure our family is complete.

hi... im currently being prescribed the decapeptyl. Ive had my first injection and have hadmy period as normal. However the bleeding isnt like it normally would be... its lasting a lot longer and seems to be a very dark brown if not black ( i no this sounds grose - sorry, i dont know if this is right or not?
i read in my hand boo i would have a period after my first injection but i didnt expect it to be like this.. Has anyone else had problems like this or can give me some advise??

also ive ead one of the side effects is weight gain.. is this correct and has anyone else put weight on??

thanking you for any advise given..

Blottedcopybook · 10/05/2010 09:22

I would have no problem with endometrial ablation (I already have four children) but I'm not sure if I'd get hassle from a doctor with regards to my age as I'm only 28.

I checked the link that cocolepew posted and I've actually had a few more symptoms (dizziness, joint pain etc) that I'd just put down to heavy bleeding so I'm not taking it anymore. Back to the GP I guess!
