I'm not unable to breath but it's hard work to get a good breath and I'm feeling exhausted all the time. The ventolin clears it for a while then it starts again.

Not known it like this for years and years.

Should I just wait for it to get better - I've upped by becotide dosage - or see someone?

Probably see someone!

In the meantime, have you tried a puff of Ventolin, and then five minutes later another, deeper puff. ie; the first puff opens the airways so that you can get deeper, more effective puff.

Just out of interest have you been drinking a lot of milk/dairy prods?

Do hope you feel better soon.

notapizzaeater · 08/05/2010 22:24

OrmRenewed · 08/05/2010 22:25

WitchShoesToWear · 08/05/2010 22:27

defo see someone, might need nebs or something?

DD is on antihistamine - for four months at this time every year, which seems to help her through the silly-season that it is!

OrmRenewed · 08/05/2010 22:28

OK. If it gets any worse I'm taking myself off to A&E. I know it sounds extreme but it' horrible.SOund like an old man.

mumonthenet · 08/05/2010 22:36

Poor you.

Yep go to A&E. You've been like this for 24 hours...enough is enough!

brimfull · 08/05/2010 22:39

have you got a spacer
I find it easier when I am really wheezy as taking the ventolin wihout spacer makes me cough hence the ventolin useless

aliasdictus · 08/05/2010 22:40

Hi, if Ventolin is not helping then you need rather more intensive treatment. If it continues deteriorating then you will soon NOT be in a position to phone and if you are also feeling more and more exhausted then I'm afraid that you DO need to call an ambulance sooner rather than later. Do not bother with NHS direct or your GP as you might not have the time, it is potentially as serious as that and I can also assure you that the medical staff will be perfectly happy if it is a false alarm as they know that Asthmatics can go off so quickly.

brimfull · 08/05/2010 22:43

I was dragged to a&e by dh once and felt a fraud until they did my sats and they were 80%

go to a&e

gettingtogrips · 08/05/2010 22:44

CarGirl · 09/05/2010 13:51

Hope you went to A&E!

OrmRenewed · 09/05/2010 17:13

Hi,

I didn't go to A&E. I was wheesy last night - took 4 puffs of ventolin and then my becotide. This morning it was fine - as if it has never happened.

Sorry for the false alarm. It was very very odd. I will mention it when I go for my check up.

Thanks for your advice.

BTW custy - I had a cafetiere of good strong coffee this morning!

Hmm fellow sufferer here. I was trying to breathe several times last night too. (bloody pollen)

But I do think you merit a trip to gp as emergency tomorow even though you may be symptom free.

I was like that a couple of years ago spent the whole summer alternating between wheezing and being fine, eventually crawled off to the gp suggesting my becotide needed increasing.

Oh no says he, you need steroids and increased the inhaler to a rather strong one.

Its taken a few years to wean myself back down.
So I would suggest to go and see gp this week.

cornsillkwearsclogs · 09/05/2010 17:31

Good to hear that you're on the mend.

blinkinblimey · 09/05/2010 19:05

Yes def go to see your gp.

Glad you're feeling better- in the meantime- have you tried to avoid sulphites?? They are acknowledged by WHO for worsening asthma, more so in children but still affect adults...

Google no to sulphites to get more information.

Coffee opens airways and magnesium citrate supplement is reported to improve asthma. Not sure what dosage though... There have been some studies done recently.
