perimenopause....any natural alternatives that really work?

I'm going through this, am 42 this year and my mum went through the menopause at 44. I've been to the dr's just to make sure it isn't anything else but am pretty sure it is.

I'm pretty fed up right now to be honest and just want to be able to get through a day without a funny turn I also have panic disorder but this is controlled with citalopram.

I've been on evening primrose and starflower oil and am hoping they help? I'm taking a multi-vit too.

Any advice much appreciated. TIA

I haven't tried kelp, Curious. Funnily enough my dog (!) has kelp for her teeth and we noticed that her coat felt very soft and luxuriant as a result. Good idea.

Hope it helps you then abr1de. Did your dr test you for thyroid by the way? I know this can affect your hair?

No--they haven't done that yet. I don't seem to have any of the other symptoms, just the thinning hair. But it's never been exactly thick.

purplepeony · 10/05/2010 08:48

Your thinning hair could be caused by all kinds of things. maybe see a trichologist?
Diet and stress have a big role to play in hair so maybe you need to investiage that?

Curiousmama · 10/05/2010 11:03

Yes a trichologist is a good idea, maybe mention that to your dr?

Yes, that's a thought re. the trichologist. I'm quite careful about diet and exercise and generally quite fit, but still it falls.

Curiousmama · 12/05/2010 08:43

Do you think it's genetic abr1de?

I'm off to docs today to see what she says?

Ooh - marking place to have a thorough read of this later....

abr1de · 12/05/2010 10:21

It could well be. My mother had already had a hyst. by my age, so I can't be sure as she'd have been on HRT afterwards.

I never exactly had MASSES of hair at the best of times.

Curiousmama · 12/05/2010 15:27

Well I have to go for an MRI brain scan but I've had one before so not worried.

Hope you get sorted out abr1de.

Oh, Curiousmama, I hope you're OK?

Curiousmama · 12/05/2010 15:59

thanks should be? At least my GP is being careful and not putting everything down to stress like some do.
