painful breast

This has just come on today but is painful enough for me to feel concerned about it. It just feels tender and aches behind the nipple, but I can't feel any lump/swelling and it looks completely normal.

I stopped breastfeeding a year ago, but it feels a bit like mastitis - altho' without any redness or specific tender places. I don't feel 100%, but that may not be related.

Could it just be hormonal? If so, would it only be on one side? Should I see a GP or wait and see what happens?

I had/have this exact thing. It always on the left side, the side I carry the kids on and GP thinks it may be a 'muscle' issue. he checked for lumps (as did I and DH), nothing found. I found it peaked at about 18 months after having both my boys, when they were heavy but still needed carrying lots and has eased hugely now DS2 is mostly walking. It still gets a bit achy mid-cycle but thats all.

Dont know if any of thats relevant to you but I would definitely go and see your GP even if its just to put your mind at rest

Thanks Pheebe. My youngest DC is 22 months, so I guess it could be muscular. But tbh, it feels deep behind the nipple and reminds me of breastfeeding sensations, so I'm not sure it's that.

I put a different bra on, and it's feeling a bit better, so could be connected. But you're right - I will see my GP if it continues.

Yes, my pain feels right inside too sometimes. I didn't breast feed so can't compare but it doesn't feel like you normal muscle strain anyway.
Hope GP can set your mind at rest anyway

It feels completely fine today, so I'm not sure I will go to the GP. It's such a hassle getting a appt at ours that I end up feeling I just can't bear the hassle

Wonder if anyone else has experienced this symptom - we can't be the only ones surely?

I also wondered whether to try and osteopath, I've always had problems withthat shoulder too. Its finding the time though

Heres' another bump anyway...

Thank you

I know what you mean - in an ideal world you would make the appointments you know you need, but then you remember that you'll have to arrange childcare, pick ups from school or whatever, and you give up the idea...
