Sore tongue

Hello. My dd (26 mths) has had for the past few days, a croaky voice and is complaining of a sore tongue which is worse when eating certain stuff. It looks as though there are lots of tiny little raised bumps on and around the tip of it. I don't think it's hand foot and mouth; I just wondered if anyone else has had exp of this. She hasn't had a fever at all. Thank you!

Our whole family have just had this , it is a virus which culminates in the tongue. There are also other mners who have had it. Poor little girl it is horrificly uncomfy

Hi wmf, did you give your children anything for it (calpol/nurofen) Did they avoid any foods? How long did it last? Fancy a job as a GP...?
Thank you v much

I'm suffering with it right now - it's horrid. I thought when my ds1 had it that he was over reacting/faking - feel horribly guilty now I feel so rough with it

Practically overdosed on icepops the other night though, and that did seem to help for a little while...

Well, she seems ok. A bit whingy, and seems to tire easily. No fever though, but still complaining of a sore tongue. Who knows? I suppose she could have just bitten her tongue perhaps? Thank you all for your advice.

Betty: ds1 complained of a sore tongue for about a week before getting 24hrs of high fever (and I'm ashamed to say, I thought he was just making it up at one point ) - I would keep an eye on her for a bit and be sympathetic - it's horribly painful and sore.

Betty1970 · 03/08/2005 21:27

Thank you Georgina A et al for your help. Tongue seems to be causing less trouble today and also seems to have bags of energy. Hopefully we are over whatever it was!

Well, seems you were right GeorginaA, dd has had horrendously high fever of up to 40.1 today- even Calpol and Nurofen weren't helping. The strange thing is that she seems pretty happy considering! God love her.

I think my dd has this - no fver but complaining of sore tongue when she eats/drinks/cleans teeth. look as if the taste buds are all raised at back, but she says it especially hurts at front (which looks normal)

she seemed a bit better yesterday so didn't take her to gp - does it warrant out of hours? she doesn't seem unwell, particularly (atm!)

vitomum · 09/12/2006 18:25

ds has had a sore tongue befire but thelast time he complained of one he went on to get chicken pox a few days later. Have no idea if it was related. Hope your dd clears up soon dinny

dinny · 09/12/2006 18:28

hmmm, thanks, vitomum- she has had chicken pox....she's also got a cough too but is otherwise ok... will take her to gp on monday if no better, I think....
