Lack of Knowledge - What type of cancer would this be?

I'm guessing cervical, but not sure if ovarian or ???? A friend was diagnosed this morning - she had post menopausal bleeding - and will have surgery in 4 weeks. Has been told that "it's the best form of cancer to have". Strange, but hopefully means if treated now, there is a good chance of resolving problem.

She's in shock and still not sure exactly where the cancer is. Can anyone provide information for me to research?

Could be uterine. I have two friends who had it, one in her 30s one in her 50s, both fine now.

If its contained, its very very treatable.

That said, as you don't know where it is you can't really research...must be very tempting to google, I would want to, I know, but you can probably best support your friend by helping her call the doctor, her GP, or a support nurse (if she's been given one) to get more information?

endometrial i reckon, ie womb lining

SouthDevonDelight · 30/04/2010 15:09

Thank you Elibean & Darrell. I'll do all I can to support her and fingers crossed it will be OK. She doesn't have close family and it's hard to take in so suddenly, which is why I felt the need for more info but she will, of course, need to talk more with her gp.

My GP in Brussels used to say she'd never lost a patient to uterine cancer. good luck for your friend.

Not likely to be ovarian. DW had that and the symptoms do not sound right. It is most definitely not described as 'the best form of cancer to have' either.

I'd be guessing at endometrial cancer too - it is very easily treated, with a hysterectomy and then sometimes radiotherapy afterwards

dont like to guess but perhaps when more is known this is reputable website

Hi just thought I'd say I have just had a hysterectomy and lymphnode removal as had cervical cancer.

I can't comment on your friends cancer as no expert but if it does turn out to be cervical the most helpful website I found are Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust and Macmillan.

And a ray of hope is that I got the all clear last Wednesday. Best wishes to your friend.
