Vertigo - meds, tips, any advice?

I think I have vertigo;
started feeling odd on Sunday,
saw GP today who agreed with my (well a friend's) diagnosis and has prescribed me prochloro-something-zine.

I'm quite sure he said it was a 3 day course of tablets - but my mind is not fully in gear at the mo.

No instructions on prescription, no instructions from pharmacist, just 'take as directed' on packet, problem is I have no 'directions'.

Called surgery back, doc had left for the day, not back 'til Thurs morning when he will ring me to confirm directions, meanwhile I am taking 1x5mg tablet 3 times a day as that is the 'normal' starting dose on the instruction leaflet & as checked by the surgery receptionist.

Hope they kick in soon as I'm fed up with the 'whooshing' feeling

Anyone else had this? how soon did it go? I also feel like I'm 'disconnected' from the world a bit, find it hard to find words and am clumsier than normal (had convinced myself I was heading for a stroke ). Are these normal extra symptoms?

And, on a not so important note - it says avoid alcohol on the pill packet, do i really HAVE to? Have some stuff going on/coming up that were going to be going-out-wine-drinking-occasions....

The dose you are taking sounds perfect for vertigo. Yes to avoid alcohol because it will be extra sedating with this drug, plus if you are dizzy/spinney already alcohol will worsen it. Not horribly poisonous to have a drink mind, just that you may get super drunk, super quick

I get vertigo from time to time. It tends to appear either after a nasty virus or when I am very stressed.

The worst I had it was 3 weeks during which my head was spinning so much I could barely move it, definately not drive.

Mostly it's much milder than that. I have the same drug (brand name Stemetil).
My GP told me that the drugs act only on the symptoms and so I could just take as required ( her actual words were to use like an aspirin).The effect of the tablets wears off noticeably after a few hours. I find that if I take one at the earliest sign of vertigo that can often head it off.

Def avoid mixing with alcohol.
I would say if you feel well enough to go out socially for a drink you could do without taking the tablets that day?

Luckily the vertigo is mostly gone, I am taking it as and when now InTheSticks, much more useful.

I have had the odd glass of wine with no problems, but i am glad it seems to be clearing up now.

All i have now is one very blocked ear so half-deaf, will try syringing it later, nice.
