Been to GP and started fexofenadine but it doesn't seem to be makng the blindest bit of difference. I still feel like crap and want to pluck out my eyes.

Some day are better than others. Today is particularly bad i suspect because of the weather (drizzling a bit again now).

So what do I do? I have exams next week and need to be writing the horrible dissertation.

GP said I could take a short course of steroids. would this be a good idea?

Or what else can I do?

Yes do what your GP says - even if for a hort time to get you through your exams.

Also ask about injection - I had this a few years ago and helped.

Other than that - a teaspoon of locally produced honey each day, I take cetirizine, not drying clothes bedding outside, little vaseline inside your nostrils... oh and not drinking as I think it reduces the effect of the antihistimines

injection is linked to osteoporosis so i'm not mad keen on that but im truly desperate.

how long should i give the fexofenadine to work? i've had 4 days worth. should i give it a week?

if i do the steroids how long would that take to work

Have been recommend them but have been reluctant to take them due to the side ffects.

AuntieMaggie · 25/04/2010 18:10

to be honest anything you take is going to have been linked to something so it's weighing up how much the risk is worth.

i've only had the injection once, about 10 years ago when i was doing my final exams etc and coincidentally the year that my hay fever was at its worst (does stress make it worse?) and i never knew anything about the link to osteoporosis but never suffered any side effects.

i've never taken steriods for hayfever but have taken some for asthma but to be honest my breathings been in such a state when i've had them that the side effects have been the last thing on my mind and i've been more concerned about dying from asthma.

the fexofenadine should be working by now - if i were you i'd go back to the gp tomorrow and see what other options there are - if you're feeling crap some of your symptoms may be side effects to the fexofenadine rather than the hayfever itself.

EccentricaGallumbits · 25/04/2010 18:19

Yes. I think I need to give in and take the steroids. Just to see me through the next week orso. I can't see properly to read or write.

I think the feeling crapness is mostly the hayfever zonked, tiredness feeling. hpefully that would go away along with the horrible eyes.
