Could I have glandular fever?

4 weeks ago I started to get a sore throat, a week later I then got swollen tonsils and egg sized glands which have needed antibiotics to reduce my glands.

The last two weeks I have been feeling absolutely wiped out - I took last week off work as didn't feel safe to drive. Arms and legs feel really heavy.

Could I have glandular fever? Had some tests done last week but I'd heard that it doesn't always show up.

I'm supposed to be back at work this week but am not sure if I am well enough to go back - will the doc sign me off just for being tired and achy?

Have also been going to bed at about 9pm every night and sleeping during the day.

Might be GF. When I had it the sore throat was absolutely horrendous - much worse than a normal sore throat.

I hope the tests are helpful.

If you're not safe to drive you shouldn't go to work IMO. I suggest you discuss with the DR and if you're not well he'll give you a further note.

Well you have the same symptoms I had when I had glandular fever so it could be.

My throat wasn't that sore really, but I had headaches and a stiff neck and my glands were swollen. Main symptom though was the tiredness which was unlike anything I've ever experienced.

I've got glandular fever at the moment. Started with severe tonsilitis-type symptoms six weeks ago. Antibiotics eased the throat a bit, but I never fully recovered. Blood test came back showing glandular fever last week.

To be honest, I haven't found my doctor that sympathetic. She wrote me a note 'to whom it may concern' stating that I had GF, but wouldn't 'sign me off sick' (apparently they don't do that anymore - they give you a 'fit note' and may say you need reduced hours or whatever). Not sure if this is just my doctor being an arse.

Thank you everyone. The sore throat has gone now - only lasted for a week or so -it's just the swollen neck glands which have been the most painful and the tiredness and heavy limbs.

Will try and get another docs appt tomorrow - I had seen some information about the 'fit notes'. The only problem is that I have to do a lot of driving for my work which does limit what I am able to do...

My body feels like I've done a marathon - that type of heaviness/dull acheyness.

Certainly sounds like it could be. The tiredness is really extreme, fatigue like nothing on earth.
Also, when I had it, my throat started off extremely sore - worse than a usual bug or cold.
I thought the only problem with it not showing up on a blood test is that if it's done too soon, you won't have developed anti-bodies? Once you've actually got GF, won't the anti-bodies then show up forever? (Someone medical may come along and correct me)

The other sign my doctor looked for when I had it was an enlarged spleen, which they can detect by feeling your abdomen.
