3rd/4th degree tear recovery - lumps that go bump in the night

I had an episiotomy and 4th degree tears almost 4 months ago. Haven't yet tried anything in the bedroom department so goodness knows what's going on in that region. However, over the past week I've been experiencing discomfort between my buttocks. Typing the word buttocks has me wanting to laugh my head off - if only I wasn't so miserable.

I have a long hard lump on my lower buttock near my anus. It chafes when I walk and sit in the wrong position. I seem to remember the consultant saying lumps could occur but would generally work their own way out. It seems that almost 4 months into the healing process I shouldn't suddenly have lumps like this?

Has anyone else experienced anything like this and should I visit my GP and ask if something can be done? I am seeing a physio so perhaps she could advise me what the situation is.

I had a third degree tear and have since had a couple of small cysts in that place which were checked out by my consultant. I've not had anything like you describe but I would recommend visiting your GP especially if it's causing you such discomfort. Are you still under the care of a consultant?

After my third degree tears I had solidified stitches, some of which were just under the skin and so caused lumps whilst a couple of others stuck out (enough that I could hold them with my fingernails!). After being seen by the practice nurse I called the labour ward who said I needed to come in via A&E to be sent back to the labour ward to have them removed! I ended up having to do this a couple of times as no-one was sure whose responsibility I was given that my baby was 5 months old!

Do get them looked at - the relief once I'd had my stitches removed was amazing!
