lump in breast

I found a lump a couple of weeks ago and mentioned it to the dr today at my sons appointment. She found it too.

I know I'm probably worrying about nothing and it's probably just a cyst but I feel a bit shaken. She has told me to go back in a couple of weeks and she will check me again.
I breastfeed my 17 mo and I'm hoping my breasts are just more lumpy now or don't hide their lumpiness as well as they did pre child!

My grandma died of breast cancer. I am worrying I must admit. The thought of leaving my boy is unbearable. I'm 36.

Not sure why I'm posting. Have been alone with my son most of today as dh working.

Thanks for reading.

Please don't worry this has happened to me on three seperate occassions and each time it has been nothing to worry about. I just have 'lumpy breasts'

On each occasion I have had ultrasound, mamograms and the first time I had a biopsy.

I was beside myself with worry especially the first time, it's hard not to let your imagination run wild, but my approach now is not to worry until a doctor tells me there is something to worry about.

Take care of yourself.

Thanks Verity your post is very reassuring! So sorry you have been through it 3 times.
My imagination has definitely been running wild and I've been thinking how I will cope with worrying about it for the next 2 weeks. I think you speak a lot of sense about not worrying until there is something to worry about!!
Thanks so much for responding

As Verity says, it may well be nothing. I too have lumps since having kids, one of which was removed but all ok. I assume the doctor wants to check after your period when your hormone levels have dropped. However, as your grandmother had BC, there may be a risk, so if you didn't mention it at the time go straight back. They should arrange an urgent referral. For my area that means one stop tests within a fortnight. Whatever the result, you should be tested for the BRCA1 gene.
Take care.

That's right Married that's why she said to go back in a couple of weeks. I didn't mention my granny - I didn't remember until after I had left the surgery.
Should I go back? Wouldn't want to be a nuisance (as pathetic as that sounds!)

I meant to say sorry for your experiences but glad all is well.

I had a lump last month. I was about a week off my period. The GP felt it too but told me to come back a week after day one of my period.
The lump had disappeared or rather blended in with my generally lumpy breasts.
My GP told me that 80% of all breast lumps turn out to be nothing to worry about.
I do know how you feel though. I could hardly bare to look at my kids (aged 3 and 1) as I was so scared.
My gran also died of breast cancer although was in her 70's.
I think breast cancer history is only relevant if the close family member was pre-menopausal at diagnosis.

Stottie, definitely do go back tomorrow- being a nuisance is not the way your doctor will regard it, honestly. I'd love to be able to reassure you but the tests are the only thing that can truly do that.
